This IS the show stopper!! Leave it to Johny McCain to come up with a new and different ingredient for the stew.

I am a bit underwhelemd. I was worried McCain would pick Joe Lieberman. I guess this choice makes movement conservatives happy, but I don't think that's what McCain needs. Maybe it's a way to pick up some of Hilary Clinton's working class supporters, but that's hard to see when he's picking such an unknown name. It has the feel of a Dan Quayle choice to me.

To ppl1158. I think you must have got your facts wrong. McCain was married to Carol McCain for just over a year when he shipped out for Vietnam, and was in a POW camp for 5 years. When he got out she had been in a car accident and looked completely different. Nonetheless,he stayed in the marriage for 10 YEARS trying to make it work. The so-called "affairs" have not been proved, unlike Bill Clinton's. He got involved with Cindy McCain during a SEPARATION from his wife. He and Carol parted amicably and are good friends today. In fact, she supports his run for president. When one of Obama's hatchet men called her to get some dirt on McCain, this is what she told him, "A gentleman would never have asked such a question" and hung up. People like ppl1158 always go the low, dirty road of smearing people when they can't find anything truthful against them.

Who was it that said Brains and good looks don't go together ? This proves that John McCain is just as smart today as he always has been. ppl1158: Womanizer. Have you forgotten about the Kennedys and Bill Clinton. None of them new how to keep their zippers up.

Message to Denver Dem and ppl1158: Sorry this pick scares the hell out of you. This pick just sucked all the air out of the Nobama campaign and will resonate with every woman in the country. Only a blind man could not see how this neutralizes so many of the Demorat issues. How are you going to attack it? The answer is that you can't unless you are part of the loony left. That and a few special interest groups is all that Nobama will have left.

McCain's choice for VP completely demonstrates his COMPLETE lack of judgment! Do we really want someone like McCain to be president. He's old---if he dies or something happens-----can this person REPRESENT AND RUN THE COUNTRY AS PRESIDENT of the USA. It's a joke. McCain will do absolutely anything to try to win this election. Including picking a NOBODY that's under investigation to be VP. It's a JOKE. And John McCain is a COMPLETE loser. Lived in AK her whole life, 5 children (including a newborn), under investigation, in government for only two years. Possibly VP and possibly President. This is an insult to the American people and to Hillary Clinton. John McCain is an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He just handed the Presidency to Obama. 0!#89 - Fri Aug 29, 2008 10:18 AM CDT

Interesting. John, the Clinton's will be furious. That position was reserved for Hillary. Palin is one of those small town people that Obama talked about, relying on religion and guns, ya know. Good on ya.

McCain VP taking over as Chief Executive is not the right question. The real question is can Hussein Obama take over on day one? And the answer to that is obvioulsy not. If you think Sarah Palin can't take over, who already has Chief Executive experience, then Obama certainly comes up short. Forget Hair-Plug Biden. Who may only find himself in the Oval Office when B.O. gets impeached for incompetence. Maybe B.O. even knew it when he named him. And by the way, don't forget B.O. is under investigation.

"Mrs. Palin, beloved by conservatives, fills a giant gap left by the defeat of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who almost captured the Democratic nomination, drawing 18 million supporters, many of them women." This is kind of ironic but true none the less. Even though I am a man, I will now vote for McCain because of her. I was most likely not going to vote until now.

Now the Hillary women can find a home. Obama wont win the white house without the Clinton women supporters and the independant voters. Though this choice is seen by some as bizare, it is actually an astute move by the GOP. Remember, the under 50 vote will elect the next president and this may be the move by McCain that puts him over the top.

The repubs hit a home run with a gorgeous, successful governor. What do the dems offer? More of the same tired, old leftism with two of the most liberal people in the senate, and neither of whom have any executive experience whatsoever.

I am, for one, elated by the choice. Some of the polarized comments already here on this blog show that the Dems are scared about this choice. Frankly, I'm now much more excited about the race! Cool! I've been waiting for a conservative woman or ethnic candidate to rise-up and challenge the Dems status quo.

A black man as president has a higher diversity score than a white woman as vice president.
