Democrats and unions have a lot at stake here. Unionization efforts suffer when there are free and fair elections with a secret ballot.
And Consider just what having free and fair elections with a secret ballot has done to the Democrats.
In 2000 the Democrats were sure they would win the White House because the people who were asked how they would vote seemed to indicate they would vote for Gore.
In 2004 the same thing happened again. Pre vote polls showed Dems with an advantage. The early exit polls proclaimed Kerrey the winner just as Gore was initially declared the winner of Florida and hence the election based on early exit polls in 2000.
But something strange happens when a voter enters the booth to vote in secret.
So who can blame the Democrats and unions. Next up just might be card check for political elections too.
Does this author know that marking yes on their NLRB card isn't the end of the process. It merely begins a period of employer threats and intimidation using closed door meetings and highly paid anti-union consultants.
The unions just want the playing field leveled. The days of the rich having it all their way are over. Recent developments have proved that giving the rich everthing they want merely allows them to choke on their greed.
As a country we need to use good judgement in establishing NLRB rules to prevent that greed from bankrupting all our businesses.
In the end this change helps all of us. Rich and poor. Even the rich must admit that they cannot be allowed to continue unchecked. Imagine rules that value working class families and living wage jobs, and not luxury yachts and one person owning 5 luxury homes. Greed is not good and it could be our undoing if it continues unchecked by good judgement.
