I am a Yale-educated woman with a very successful law practice and 3 children.
I would have voted for Hillary.
I am grateful that McCain, whether is was for straight politics or just plain good sense, chose an intelligent, capable, hard-working woman of character when Obama was not so willing.
I WILL vote for McCain/Palin, not out of stupidity, but out of intelligence. No, I do NOT agree with EVERYTHING they say. But I did NOT agree with EVERYTHING Hillary Clinton said either.
Are you hardcore McCain/Palin-haters willing to tell me that in 1984 when the MAJORITY of women voted for the Republican candidates when Geraldine Ferraro was on the Democratic ticket that those women were exercising good judgment? Was GF so bad? I'd say they did NOT exercise good judgment. But NOW is their chance to make up for that and set up the most incredible opportunity to this country since 1920: Hillary Clinton vs. Sarah Palin 2012.
(Aaaahh, so Hillary supporters can still make her the first female president if they'd like.)
Don't call me STUPID because I decide to support the candidate I feel confident will do more for women than any of the other current alternatives.
Or... perhaps you would rather fight me in court where I promise (with a record of 83 wins vs. 6 losses, all being cases against male attorneys) I'll tear you apart.
Michelle
I'm not enthused by religiousity dominating a political agenda. To Ms Yale below I too received a stupendous education - mine from a private Liberal Arts college and a Masters degree from a major university. I think about these things and am not easily swayed by rhetoric or single issues. I'm a political independent sitting on the fense on these two candidate tickets. I think that the talk of Palin's experience is frankly insulting when Obama's own experience is equivalent or even less. I will admit to being absolutely enthralled with Palin - and her religiousity annoys me greatly. But I'm more drawn to the fact that she sold the governor's private jet when she was in power. She took on her own party establishment. Would Biden do that? Would Obama do that? I see that ticket not as a ticket of reform and change but change that takes us back to the dem party of the early 70s - I loathe that. I love Palin's direct bluntness and her forceful personality - far more impressive than she is given credit for. It shows that McCain is secure in his ego - Obama took a pass when he had the same opportunity. I now will vote for the Republican ticket, have donated money, and am giving serious thought to joining the party!!
is McCain's pick of Mrs. Palin "out of the box?" or "outside the box?" if it's the former, where's the box?
Yurfulla: I'm glad you're not voting for Obama/Biden.
But may I humbly remind you, "Pride goes before a fall."
One of the things I appreciate about Mrs. Palin is that she is not another lawyer. We have far too many of those in our government now, and, in my opinion, it's the primary reason there is so much rancor, division, and prevarication in the halls of Congress.
... and egribe: us "plain 'ol folks" in Texas spell "fense", fence. I guess I went to the wrong school.
... and, to the irreligious and prideful, (and the Lord is healing me of both these sins), I offer these thoughts from the pen of Rick Elias:
It was said this man was of no reputation
Yet He could stop a rising storm
With a gesture of His hand
But He chose to use His hands to heal
Hearts of darkness, hearts of stone
Just like mine would be revealed
He was a man of no reputation
And by the wise, considered a fool
When He spoke about faith and forgiveness
In a time when the strongest arms ruled
But this man of no reputation
Loved the weak with relentless affection
And He loved all those poor in spirit just as they were
He was a man of no reputation
It was said this man brought only confusion
That He'd achieve his ends by any means
And the truth would bring revolution
And for once they were right, the truth set us free
The hearts of the captive were his only concern
And the powerful knew their days were ending
He was a man of no reputation
And by the wise, considered a fool
When He spoke about faith and forgiveness
In a time when the strongest arms ruled
But this man of no reputation
Loved the weak with relentless affection
And He loved all those poor in spirit just as they were
He was a man of no reputation
One day soon the gates of heaven will open wide
And the Prince of Peace will come back for His bride
But for now we live on these streets, forbidding and tough
Where push always comes to shove
And it's said love's never enough
Where a prophet in rags gives hope to a fearful world
No injustice, no heart of darkness
Will keep His Voice from being heard
He was a man of no reputation
And by the wise, considered a fool
When He spoke about faith and forgiveness
In a time when the strongest arms ruled
But this man of no reputation
Loves us all with relentless affection
And He loves all those poor in spirit, come as you are
To the Man of no reputation.
Obama said that Bush tried to use fear tactic (fear of terrorism) to get support. Obama should not use fear tactic (fear of Mc Cain equals BUsh) to get support. This is not honesty and integrity. The excess slandering of a previous president just because you know you can gain popularity by doing so is not an ethical method of campaigning. If Mc Cain wants to he can also use this method. After all, Mc Cain ran for presidency against Bush before and lost. But Mc Cain chosed not to. He attacks failed policies and tries to offer solutions instead of slandering the person.
one thing people always complain about is the lack of common sense in our leaders. how many times have you heard someone say, 'the job ought to go to a mother with kids who knows how to balance a checkbook? that leaves me out, by the way. well, here she is folks; a mom who balances a state checkbook! i look forward to voting for palin/mccain!
Palin gave me a reason to vote Republican now...and work Republican.
The Saddleback interview also helped me with McCain - who I was less than excited about. I just hope he holds to the principles he delineated.
Thank you to Fox for re-running that interview, just got a chance to see it last night.
Now...WHERE can I get a 'Sarah Barracuda' bumper sticker??
I WANT ONE!!!
Palin appears to be a politician that doesn't already seem to be pre-programmed by Washington standards. She's a breath of fresh air and I would look forward to having her in a leadership position. As Obama says, it's time for a change alright, but it sure ain't him!
This doesn't make sense to me:
"At the same time, we caution that the majority of voters are pro-choice and will be looking for signs that a McCain-Palin administration will put common sense ahead of politics."
It seems to me that, in this case, assuming it is even true that the majority of voters are "pro-choice," it would be a more strictly, even cynical, political move to announce a pro-choice running mate.
IMHO, McCain is showing true common sense by selecting a woman of the people who has worked to reform AK gov't, etc. who will energize people on both sides of this single issue as evidenced on this, thus far, brief thread.
As an aside, I do not buy that he selected her "just b/c she's a woman" expecting her on that basis alone to woo disaffected Hillary supporters any more than I believe he selected her simply to satisfy the pro-life base of the party.
Perhaps as he comtemplated his choices he was simply energized at the thought of running with this dynamic woman whose maverick sensibilities are so like his own! Perhaps it was just common sense to choose Palin!!!
(Can you tell I'm psyched?!)
you really think she'll make abortions illegal? Bush just had 8 years to do that and....he didnt. Clinton had 8 years to take away the guns.....he didnt. Why dont you vote for the real issues like your family...job....money...well-being....health.
Those things all seem just a little more important. Oh and gay marriage....again Bush had 8 years and did nothing. Use your brains....vote for something real.
GO BARRACUDA!!!....I'm voting for you....Tell the old insipid guy you're running with to go home until you win it for him!!!...I teared up when you and your beautiful family came on stage on Friday....And your speech had the "fire in the belly" we were all waiting for...
Once again the liberal non-christian dictators are telling women what's in their best interests and that Palin is no-women advocote...bogus misleading an lying liberals. They are the worst thing to have happen to america in our lifetime. The thought and voting police are out in full force trying to tell women who to vote for. Effectively trying to control the women right of individual assesment and control of their individual vote.
Palin is extremely successfu, strong, determined women who has the potential to become 1st seed material for future polical office like heading ticket in future against Clinton. They are scared and they now the impact of letting an alternate vison of leadership of moral clarity and reflection for women. They are scared to hell of religous, community serving, moral and successfull women who raise childern and attend church and are soccer/hockey mom types rallying against the sef-centered, elitist, moral deficint, Clintonon types that say they are the current leaders of the women movement.
Palin has 13 years of elected office, given birth five times, loved her country as much as her husband, fought corruption in her own party, dealt with relations with two countries that are direct neigbors of her state. She smashed the big oil good ol boy system with her striaght talk approach in leadership in Alaska. She risked death to fight corrupt men in the Alaska goverment whom were so corrupt they could have eliminated the threat using evil force.
She is a hero and a joy to all women's hopes and as a Christian Man I love her and trust her as my vice-president or president in my future.
Go Palin!
When will women get it?
The blacks are going to vote for Obama because he is black. Period.
If women really want to "break the glass ceiling" they will need to get behind a woman in the same way. Hillary Clinton wasn't it and won't be because of the 'good ole boys' in the Democratic Party.
Colbert I King, a black journalist with the Washington Post has an agenda. Get Barrack Hussein Obama elected.
When women get behind one of their own in the same way, the world will change. They had their chance with Geraldine Ferraro.
Now 24 years later they are given another chance. Let's see what they do with it this time.
