I’ve just arrived at National Stadium - aka the Bird’s Nest - for the 8 a.m. (D.C. time) Opening Ceremonies. And it’s like the entire area has been piped in fog.

The humidity is oppressive. Luckily, the sun is not out because of the smog. It will be dark a little after the ceremony starts.

First impressions of the stadium:

1. No luxury boxes

2. Every seat appears to be the same.

3. Good sight lines from the upper decks.

4. I’m watching, like a lot of people, in several air-conditioned media rooms, but I’ll be out in the press area later on.

1. Darius Passmore, Marshall - Thundering Herd wide receiver need only point to the back of his jersey when unhappy with the playcalling.
