The accusations made by the Indian newspapers may be a little premature. But given the past history of the support to the militant groups by the Pakistani government, it is natural that the fingers will be pointed towards them first. There is no reason to believe that just because the government has changed the past policy of terrorism against India has also changed. Hence the onus of proving the innocence lies mostly on the Pakistani government.
Mr. Davis,
The name of city is Mumbai and not Bomaby. It was officially changed years back. Not sure why are you still referring the city as Bombay. Not knowing name of the city would be a big blow to credibility of your 'expertise' on the matter!
Good article - more responsible writers like Davis are certainly needed for the peace in world.
Trishul, Engr3073,
Davis is a lobbyist for the Govt. of Pakistan. Take his op-ed with a grain of salt.
Thanks
Davis,Looks like the Pakis have found some money in their pockets to keep paying you considering that they are currently bankrupt and begging for money from the international community. I am convinced that no matter how much proof you are shown, you will continue your rants about Pakistan being the "good guy" ... Remember that the top honchos of Al Qaeda are hiding in Pakistan a place they feel completely secure in and taking advantage of the terror infrastructure that has been put in place by the ISI.
Secondly, the last time i checked, Zardari is a toothless tiger.. The real power in pakistan remains with the military and the ISI ..
You can't put too much weight on words of paid lackeys. One thing Pakistan has consistently done well is bought a lot of good PR people like Mr. Davis here.
Mr. Davis obviously values his bought off loyalty more than the lives of innocent people.
Mr. Davis I hope the price of your conscience was high enough to hurt Pakistan in some manner. I guess they made good use of the money you helped them get.
What was your percentage of their take from US taxpayers? Maybe Mr. Davis should include that in his disclosure. After all the remainder of the fees went to supporting terrorism around the globe.
No need to get worked up, Mr. Davis, you might still get another contract from Pakistan. Lets however look at some facts:
India has accused the group you mentioned Lashkar-e-Taiba. This group is on the terror list of both the British and the US. I call it a fair enough accusation, no?
Lets look at the other entity you mentioned, the govt of Pakistan. In 1993, the Clinton Administration placed Pakistan on the watch list of suspected state-sponsors of international terrorism. Not saying they are involved, but it's not exactly like India is accusing Mother Teresa of bloody murder, is it?
While some in India have been quick to accuse Pakistan of responsibility or complicity, the government of Pakistan has not helped itself with the actions it has taken so far. President Zardari's offer to send the head of the ISI to India was impressive. It appeared to be a decisive, innovative attempt to aid India with an issue that Pakistan is claiming is a shared problem.
The offer did not stand however. After a bunch of hand-wringing and fingerpointing within the Pakistani establishment, new announcements claimed that the press had got it wrong and that the real offer was merely to send an official from the ISI. The proposed action by the government of Pakistan seems to have diminished from something significant and unprecedented, with high potential to a pro-forma offer calculated to be the minimum possible to support the "we aren't reponsible" defence.
The further comments about moving troops to the Indian border seem to indicate that the most significant motivation in the Pakistani government and military is fear for themselves and their power. Any expressed sympathy for the victims of the terrorist acts in Mumbai ring hollow in the context of the Pakistani government's actions and threats.
If the accounts of the captured terrorist are accurate AND he wasn't lying, Pakistan is, at the least, either incapable of controlling what happens on it's soil or guilty of turning a blind eye to terrorist training it thought would be used in Kashmir.
The political and military elite of Pakistan have not come to grips with a simple fact: nation-states which attempt to use terrorism to advance their national agenda will eventually be called to account for it by other nation-states or the terrorists will turn on their sponsor. The Pakistani government has a history of following this path - in Afghanistan with the CIA against the Russians and, more recently in Kashmir. Questions exist about the bombing of the Indian embassy in Kabul and previous acts of terrorism in India. If Pakistan has renounced this foreign policy instrument, the Pakistani government and military need to take significant, explicit actions to prove it.
Davis chooses to be unaware of ISI perfidy that is costing AMERICAN lives in Afghanistan and elsewhere. The current administration has stated that the ISI was behind the attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul earlier this year.
Davis purports to offer full disclosure about his "past" representation of the government of Pakistan but it is hard not to come to the conclusion that his absurdly slanted op-ed was initiated by his paymasters.
Mr. Davis :
From your article, you are saying that "The newly elected democratic government has nothing to do with this terrorist act and accusing them is not right".
When India talks about Pakistan government involvement, it is more than just the newly elected government. It is mainly the "Moral support" [ Politically correct word for training & monetary support] and Elements within ISI supporting many of the terrorists acts.
I see that as a lawyer, it is always good to write about something different to evoke many responses. In that way, you have looked at it from a different angle. Good for you. You got me spending time on this!
[ Your article reminds me of many websites that says "HOLOCAUST IS NOT TRUE" ]. For your next article , please refer the following website. It gives you nice ideas as well
[http://www.stormfront.org/truth_at_last/holocaust.htm]
This man has no credibility whatsoever. He is paid hack for a government of a country that has been the point of emanation of EVERY Islamic terrorist activity that has occured in recent times (like the past decade and a half). India has produced more evidence of pakistani/ISI complicity than the Bush government did for Al Qaeeda in Iraq, yet it is not enough for him. Even the US intelligence service implicated Pakistan's ISI with the bombing of Kabul embassy that killed an Indian diplomat. Indeed anything that jeopardizes his pay-off from the Pakistani government will be criticized by Mr.Davis. Declaring his affiliation with the Pakistan does not mitigate the fact that he is deeply compromised.
"....in Bombay (called Mumbai in India)"
How lame is that ??? why keep referring to bombay? Can't Lanny at least respect what a country calls its own city by using the right name?
Davis, you've truly sold your soul. garbage like this article is part of the reason for the blood that continues to be spilled. Go spend your pieces of silver and stop pretending that you are an analyst - youre nothing more than pond scum that can be bought. Probably very cheaply given youre buyers.
Lanny,
It is amazing that you are still behaving like the stooge of Pakistan that you probably used to be.
Be informed. Understand the realities of your favorite failed state before randomly commenting on how its victims should and should not react.
Have you read the report on Education from Pakistan's own policy institute? If not, I would suggest strongly that you download this document and read it at your leisure, since you seem to be desperately out of touch with why Pakistan is imploding.
http://www.sdpi.org/whats_new/reporton/State%20of%20Curr&TextBooks.pdf
This report talks about the state of and content in text books being prescribed by Pakistan's own government (humorous as the phrase is given the state of governance in that failed state)
Then, I'd suggest you go deep into meditation to figure out why the youth going through the education system there become the terrorists that they turn out to be.
Regards
This kind of trash 'journalism' is what these jehadi terrorists adore. "Justification of their barbaric acts by media"
This one-sided defense of Paki terror is a woefully inadequate piece of prostitution parading as a credible piece of journalism.
Maybe, if the writer actually experienced the sheer terror that the innocents in CST, Taj, Oberoi, spanish trains, London trains, Twin Terrors etc experienced... he would actually realize that a broken country Pakistan is!
I hope that the Editors (if they exist for these trashy times) will rescind this piece of propoganda.
Pakistan is a state-sponsor of terror and by no stretch of imagination a "great country". A nation that has been ruled by the Army, that regularly kills it political leaders and has vast areas of lawless tribal laws is hardly a "great country".
Maybe, just maybe, you and your family should immigrate to the NWFP and give up all your freedom.
Shameful piece of trash. My blood just boils reading this piece of sh*t from a sp*neless SOB.
