The parasites are killing the host. The bail out amounts to a transfusion without treating the underlying cause. Bankrupcy is the the answer. Kill off the parasites before it's too late.

HEALTH CARE BETRAYAL OF AMERICA’S AUTO RETIRES? Unions and union leaders like Walter Reuther and his brothers have historically done more to protect working people and create America’s middle class then any other force. Unfortunately, after Walter Reuther died, the subsequent UAW leaders lacked Reuther’s vision and refused to properly protect workers jobs and the pensions & benefits of retirees. Today’s struggling auto retirees, who spent their lives supporting their union and building this nation, are now being condemned daily by the corporations, media and government officials who consider them expendable. UAW officials have been silent in the defense of UAW retirees and have even joined in the chorus calling their retirees “legacy costs”. These are the same union officials who recently used questionable legal maneuvers to raid and meaningfully slice promised pensions and benefits from hard pressed UAW retirees. These union officials refused to vest retiree health care benefits or keep pension buying power up with inflation over the years. Older auto retirees make profoundly smaller pensions then recent retirees. Health care is clearly not affordable to older auto pensioners living on meager pensions. Stealing their health care would be repaying these already besieged retirees for their working lifetime of contributions with a potential catastrophic health related death sentence. autoretiree - The UAW is merely an extension of the Democrat party. After reading your post, I am surprised of all your talk of health care in retirement. I thought that was called "Medicare". Here is one reason I oppose a bailout. Mr. Gettelfinger says: "that [$25 billion] will get us through until we can take a longer-term look at exactly what needs to be done in the industry." The US auto industry has been struggling now for decades. His statement shows all that we need to know about forking over the money. They should have taken that "longer-term look" a long time ago. I have another reason for opposing this bailout of the UAW. Why should I send my tax dollars to the auto industry that then uses it to pay workers who have to pay "dues" to the UAW that then turns around and spends or gives a huge number of those same dollars to a political party to which I am opposed? If Congress can demand concessions on "lavish" CEO pay and company perks, then Congress can demand concessions on how the UAW spends it money on politics. The UAW can quit supporting the Democrat party or in the very least should support both parties to the same extent its members do. And Mrs. McCaskill is a gem. We need to "behave like a bank"? Is she not a member of the same Democrat party that forced banks to make "socially responsible loans" instead of fiscally repsonsible loans, which just cost us a trillion bailout dollars? Congress got involved with housing using the CRA, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to push banks to make bad loans. Now she want's Congress to "behave like a bank" and I assume that means to behave like Democrats want banks to behave. That is very bad news indeed for the taxpayer. I suggest that Mrs. McCaskill leave it to the banks, investment banks and the private market to discern whether the US auto companies have a sound business plan. If that is the case then private financing will come about.

25 billion will do it! ? ! ? I think 25 billion could rescue about anything. But the illuminati are already talking about 700 billion for something and now 25 billion... where does all this money come from, that's what i want to know. It's just crazy how we can come up with money for the things we want but real people all over the world are in real need. Crazy.

Cry me a river. Do not bail out these leeches. The UAW and the liberal environmentalist whako’s CAFE standards have ruined the auto industry in the US. Let the bloodsuckers take their 52 weeks severance at 78$ an hour and find a job where they actually earn what they're skill and education level are worth. Oh the horrors of joining the rest of America in reality. Or they can just wait for the severance and jobs bank money to run out. Why should they care, their savior will soon be showering them with "spread the wealth checks". Whatever will the Democratic Party do without all that union donation money?
