Sen. Martinez will not seek re-election

As a Florida resident, I say 'good riddance!" Too bad he couldn't figure out that his decline in popularity was due to his whole-hearted embrace of amnesty for illegal aliens.

Republicans should be happy to be rid of this clown.

Thank you Mel for stepping aside and letting someone more competent take over. You and your Republican colleagues have disgraced the Party of Reagan enough with your spending and ineptitude.

He was better than his opponent in the last election, ultra-liberal mushhead, Betty Castor. Unfortunately, at times, he was a halfway Republican --- part of the reason that Party is now in the situation they're in. For example, I wrote him a letter requesting that he work for the release of Border Patrol agents, Ramos and Compean, wrongly convicted on the testimony of a drug dealer and illegal alien granted full immunity by a slick prosecutor. What I got from Sen. Martinez was a lawyer-slick explanation about why these agents deserved their incarceration. Something's seriously whacked when a Republican, supposedly all about law and order, won't lift a finger to help two victims of one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in the last 100 years of American history.
