i understand the economy needs the auto industry to do well because that would help things all around. BUT what will be the lasting, corrective change that come from the liberal illuminati just bailing out the auto industry. There has to be a better option because if we just hand them money in 10, 20 years we will be right back in the same place. Them asking us for money to bail them out.
Change? Get off of it. They owe the Unions for their support. The Democrats could care less about the Big Three, but they owe the UAW and AFL-CIO big time. This will be just another "stimulus" package for this year.
The bailout is complete Horse****. Make them restructure under Chapter 11. Kick the Unions out, fire the engineers, and start building cars like they do in Europe (GM Insignia). Congress has no right to force people who make less than half of what the unskilled laborers make at the "Big" Three to pay for anything. The way I see it the pool of willing labor to replace the the high paid slackers will be rather large. By the way, I have been to assembly plants, I've seen the Weber style work flow process, lifting fifty pounds is the most "work" I've seen any of them do.
The auto-industry isn't in danger. It's only the "Big Three" that are facing financial problems because of their own failure to match the quality and prices of the products offered by the competition. As we are a capitalistic economy, companies which are unable to compete should be allowed to fail so that other, more successful companies can take their place. That's how our economy remains vibrant. You can't have a vibrant economy when the Government keeps propping up the failures of business. To use an automobile analogy, this type of government interference is the road to total economical failure.
"Detroit-friendly Democrats to buck public opinion" This fits hand-in-glove with the elitist hubris of the Big Three CEOs and UAW management. We peons simply don't know that our money is really theirs.
"No taxation without representation" -?
How about: NO BAILOUT WITHOUT BANKRUPTCY.
I am sooooo far to the left politically..yet feel that these folks should take the "slippery slope" (god I hate that new cliche) into a chapter 11. Unions may have had their place in history but with the automakers they got way out of line. Controls and regulations in the industry and in government can replace this old method. For decades the workers have enjoyed huge salaries and phenominal benefits with generally no education, and those in control have held steadfast to maintaining production of out-of-step land yachts in a generation of oil and pollution issues. In history there are times of adjustment and this is the time for these dinosaurs to die off and provide opportunities to more appropriate auto manufacturing business ventures. Like we say at the gym (another overworked, but appropriate, cliche).. "no pain, no gain".
What really bugs me is the fact that from the far left (TyinPS) to the wide-right of center (me), Americans agree: NO BAILOUT for GM,Ford,Chrysler (I think the most recent poll number I heard was 70% opposed to bailout) ... yet certain people in Congress thumb their nose at us.
Oh how we really need to clean House. And Senate.
