Start with Romans 1:17 and read on from there. Pray and think befor you back something like this, knowing it is against God and he will never condone that type of lifestyle! Their peverted sexual desires have taken over the whole being!

Well once Obama get into power i think that the people are going to have to push him on the issue. He has remained fairly quite but he supports gay marriage. And that is going to be a huge issue. And people like smuthrob need to realize that gay marriage isn't a religious issue it's a issue of rights. And if Islamic people can vote and marry so should gay people be able to vote and marry. Just cause you disagree with the muslims doesn't mean you try and take away their rights to marry. My two sense.

to roadwarrior: Obama has never said that he favors gay marriage. he has said that he favors civil unions that give all the same rights and benefits, but not marriage equality. to smuthrob: ugh.

We need to step back from the current arguments and ask what is going to be the effect of redefining marriage. First, marriage began as a religious institution. If it is redefined by a government, it will have significant consequences on the freedom of religion. Once it is recognized as a right, there will be significant legal avenues for same-sex couples to sue churches for the right to be married by them. It will also cause private business who do not want to service gay marriages to be subject to federal civil rights laws. It is disingenuous for the gay rights people to pretend that they don't know these future consequences. We must, as a country, weigh the future consequences and not put ourselves on a collision course with Freedom of Religion issues and forced compliance of business who do not want to recognize the new definition.

"Proposition 8, which eliminated the right of same-sex couples to marry" That's a lie, plain ans simple. Proposition 8 DEFINES what constitutes a marriage, which is something that the California Constitution did not do prior to this Amendment. This Proposition, in no way, eliminated an existing right. If you are going to report the news, at least tell the truth about what you are reporting.

Youngdupont has said it plain and simple...with him I agree. I am tolerant of gays. However, I believe in a higher power who created us - marriage ought to be between a man and a woman (to procreate because it is for this reason we are on this earth) Should gays wish to couple up by civil unions, so be it, but do not insult the maker by allowing marriage (in the true terms, he is supposed to be a part of the relationship)

Please stop fearing the religious right. They are not our guardians. If you do not pass this, I will support proposals to destroy religion. Religious bigots/zealots need to suffer from their own poison. I want to destroy their religion!

The bigots of the religious right are always talking about their rights when it comes to Gay rights. They use the same arguements today about Gays that at one time they used against Blacks, Womens rights, mixed race marriage etc. etc. "It's in the Bible". Who cares? Only foolish people indoctrinated from birth could actually believe that a book written by supersticious jews 2000 to 3500 years ago and translated at the behest of Emperors, Kings and Popes who had political agendas is actually the revealed word of God. That these men were so holy, so pure, so right, that they infallably interpreted the mind and will of God. Come on!!! You are entitled to believe any silly thing you want to believe. You are not entitled to take away other peoples civil rights. Yes, marriage is a civil right, because it is sanctioned and rewarded by the state...think the church is giving you those tax breaks, inheritance rights and ability to make decisions for disabled spouses?

I think we should institute some of the other things called for in the Bible. Lets start with stoning all the adulterers, and then we can follow up with selling our captives from war into slavery. Don't forget that only members of the same religion can get married. It really does get silly if you try and pick and choose what parts of the Bible you want to use. What we really should do is make a civil union the legal requirement for all Federal and state benefits and a religious marriage is only a church function that has no legal bearing in a court of law. All that gays want is the right to the same benefits that everyone else has.

The common refrain in all the Yes on 8 ads was the idea that current progress for gay rights is taking away people's rights to practice their religion. Opponents of 8 never addressed those fears. They just kept calling supporters of 8 'bigots'. Now the blacklists and vandalism to try to silence Mormons make it look like free speech is another freedom they are willing to take away in order to get this one specific freedom they want so badly. Supporters of gay marriage are going to have to address the concerns voters have over the rights we feel they are asking us to give up.

TyinPS

Wamba..what rights do supporters of 8 feel they are being asked to give up? The rights to let others marry who do not believe in "our" religious definition of marriage? I am heavy in the anti-8 movement politically here in California, and I have to tell you, that those who feel the rights civil unions are equal to the rights of legal marriage, are wrong. There are 1100 rights associated with marriage that are not included in civil unions. In the old south, here was voting leading to a war that was fought to protect ownership of slaves, slaves, by the way, who were not allowed to marry as they were chattel..you know..like women were earlier. Discrimination is discrimination and it is wrong no matter what holy book you kneel to..now excuse me while I earn my way to hell for sinfully eating pork chops and shellfish tonight....an abomination..but a gift to me after stoning my wife to death for wearing slacks and selling off my daughter to slavery...all allowed in the bible. The whole thing is filled with hate and hypocracy and the movement has started and will not end until equality is reached.

TyinPS is once again showing his ignorance. Why don't you and MikeTheDrugCounsellor actually read the Bible, instead of taking "talking points" out of context. Race is not a choice, as is homosexuality. You CHOOSE to engage in sodomy and perverted sexual behavior. Marriage is an institution which is meant to strengthen the society by recgnizing the establishment of family units, including children, as the basis of it. Homosexual unions are a detriment to our society, because they promote hedonism and behaviors antithetical to any society. Note how homosexuality flourished during the decline of most of the prominent societies of history. In that light, it would be a good idea to punish adulterers, as they also contribute to the destrucion of our society; or they could at least be charged with breach of contract and punished civilly. The fact that the Bible was written over teh course of 1500 years by about 40 authors from all walks of life, yet has a unified message, is evidence that it is inspired by God, and timeless in its application. You seem to miss the point that it was a progressing revelation culminating in the revelation of the Messiah, who clarified the message as the final arbiter of God's instructions to man. Shall we grant marriage rights to polygamists? How about to NAMBLA members with children? Perhaps someone would like to marry his or her dog? Where does one draw the line?

Cosmogirl, you said it better than I could. I'm part of the majority. Black folks have suffered so much in our history. This is different and NOT a civil right. Marriage is between a Man and a Woman. You want to do sodomy in your br, who cares, your business. You want to have some kind of a civil union, who cares but marriage, that's not a civil right.
