Um, not that I don't think remote control planes are really cool and all, cause I do, but doesn't anybody else find this a little bit creepy? Do people think this is the kind of stuff we should be doing -lurking around central Asia with freaking robot planes that fire missiles and kill people? People think this is necessary? What, is this going to be a trend or something? Will there be a new video game. - "Reaper Pilot"? (Of course, maybe this is why we have all these gamer kids now, so they can take their otherwise worthless gaming skills that they've developed sitting in front of the TV for hours, hiding from life, and then turn around and get paid for doing the real thing in the military, but I digress.) Or do I? Just so I'm clear, I think we have really lost our way. That we think it's normal to discuss the deployment of these drones 8000 miles away - without mentioning that at such distances, we cannot be certain who we're blowing up - is irresponsible in the extreme. Further, we do not seem to care that there is ALSO NO WAY that those people WHO LIVE IN THAT COUNTRY want our unmanned plane sneaking around looking for targets. We have allowed, and even encouraged, our federal government to become so out of control that it is essentially self-destructing in slow motion. Our military adventurism, even if done by remote control, will become economically unsustainable - no matter what people think. We just won't be able to afford it anymore - period. I only hope that, as the government fails in every conceivable way, that they will also fail to stamp out everything good about the American people.

If you would prefer to wait until the terrorists arrive in the US and then challenge them to a duel with light sabers, be my guest. The 19 islamofascist terrorists who flew commercial airliners full of civilian passengers into the WTC towers knew they were killing civilians. They reveled in that knowledge. That these "brave" terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan hide among the civilian population is their decision. To the extent that the civilian population willingly provides cover, that is their decision. Only hand-to-hand combat assures that combatants are the only casualties. Regarding gaming and warfare, I suggest you consider reading the science fiction novel "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. Based on your comment below, you would probably find it really creepy.

Seems to me that SecDef Robert Gates fired a USAF Chief of Staff and the Air Force Secretary for obstructing development of drones like the Reaper. It's about time the USAF got with it. Next, we'll get R2D2 and C3PO to be the boots on the ground, eh?

Tomdesabla has a weird view of the Reaper's purpose. The "people' who are targeted have already attacked or are preparing to attack innocent people.
