Imagine for a minute after losing 3000 citizens in one morning ,knowing full well that some of them are the perpetrators no doubt, what Alexander the Great or Caesar would do with he Guantanamo detainees. Those guys knew how to run an empire erring on the side of caution when threatened .

Following the Geneva Conventions would be fine with me provided we return them to their homeland or to any country or just release them by letting them walk into Cuba. Regardless, whatever Obama chooses will be wrong and one step toward the pre-9/11 days. Interpol can handle it all with the help of the UN General Assembly. So, where's the problem?

To Mr. Stimson re your statement: "Already, some of those released have taken up arms against the United States and our allies." Given the considerable evidence of torture at Bagram and Gitmo, do you blame them? Torture radicalizes it turns even friends into enemies. I owe so much to Americans, I benefitted so much from my contact with America - and yet, when I read about Gitmo and Bagram and how a fellow Canadian, Omar Khadr was tortured there, even I have to struggle not to feel hate for your government, your military and your country. [I also hate my own government even more, for wimping out and letting your government keep him after Candaian officials connived at his torture and ruthlessly interrogated a legal minor instead of helping him] I can't bring myself to visit America again, even to see my sister and niece. I go out of my way not to buy American products. I would vote against any strengthening of ties with the U.S. Marnie Tunay Fakirs Canada http://fakirscanada.googlepages.com/

Suggestion for the new zip code for the detainees - 05301. FakirsCA - Those released that have killed again, been killed or recaptured were not in Gitmo to begin with because of their loving dispostion towards their fellow man. (btw, proof of this "considerable torture" is ...) We didn't hold these people prisoner or waterboard anyone before 9/11. Yet 9/11 happened. You know, the victim isn't always to blame. Sometimes when a man gets his head sawed off, an American Jew in a wheelchair gets shot in the head and dumped overboard, or hundreds of people in India get slaughtered, it may just be the perpetrators that are to blame. By the way, even though a man named Omar Kadr was captured on the battlefield, who by your own admission is a Canadian, I don't blame nor hate Canadians. Hate is one of the reasons these fools find themselves in Gitmo. You sound like you are a perfect candidate for recruitment.

reply to RDH's (btw, proof of this "considerable torture" is ...) Thank you for asking. I have links to the evidence and some of the documents, such as a 300-page report by FBI observers, some of whom give first-hand descriptions of torture at Gitmo, available on my file storage site. Here is the URL for the list of docs and access info: http://fakirscanada.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!BCDFFB6F4CF5AAB!543.entry All of the records are available free online, and a number of the most important ones are on that site of mine. If you don't feel like wading through that 300-page FBI report, a video I did on Omar Khadr gives details and pages: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlvs0o7DZAQ I also published an article which sets out the evidence most relevant to the issue Omar's repatriation and give my conclusion as to why Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper doesn't want Omar to return - ever - to Canada: http://fakirscanada.newsvine.com/_news/2008/12/07/2186750-why-stephen-harper-doesnt-want-to-repatriate-omar-khadr-its-about-the-money You will also find links on that site to talks given by Omar's lawyer, who works for Omar for free. I also published notes from a recent rally in Edmonton, from the keynote speakers: http://fakirscanada.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!BCDFFB6F4CF5AAB!505.entry Anyone is free to contact me directly with questions or comments about anything I have said. My name is Marnie Tunay, and my email address is marnietunay@shaw.ca My home page is http://fakirscanada.googlepages.com/ and my YouTube channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/FakirsCA RDH, I respectfully suggest we might talk again after you've had a chance to review some of that evidence: at least, the statements by FBI officials, who surely must be held to be credible witnesses. Best regards, Marnie Tunay FakirsCA Fakirs Canada
