Obama eyes cuts in expensive weapons systems

Thus, to create some greenie jobs Obama will simply shutdown huge segments of private industry including some of our most advanced high-tech areas with our most skilled and educated workforce. They will then have to go to union jobs to operate a track hoe, drive a dump truck and create millions of non-productive greenie jobs. All to "adjust" our national defense to Obama's Reality Show Spitball Army (as noted by Zell Miller). Just makes you want to go out hug a tree, build a windmill, mount a horse and start jousting practice doesn't it.

This guy is going to get us all killed for the sake of appeasing the fools who elected him! What do you expect from an illegitimate president elect who will not even prove that he is qualified to take the oath of office as POTUS.

Great! At a time when Russia is rusurgent & China's still in the midst of a HUGE military buildup, the chance of an old fashioned nation state war is greater than ever. Now we've elected a man who wants to shelve SERIOUS defense projects for "domestic projects". Guess what? If Russia & China start making trouble in the world, in addition to all of the other problems we have, there won't BE a whole lot of concern for "domestic projects." Not to mention the question of how many more body bags would we have to fill with our young men & women if we were to get into a large scale conflict w/Russia or China, WITHOUT the systems that Obama would cut? Would the blame fall in Obama's lap as squarely as all of the perceived ineptitudes of GW & his crew? I highly doubt it.

I love the Neocon posters who posted before me. Uncle Sam spends more on defense than all other countries on the globe. Combined! And he's going to kill off twentieth century weapons, not twenty-first century ones. And to think I didn't vote for him!

With the economy tanking Obama is going to cut one of the few government spending programs that actually helps the economy.

Sounds like an easy road to second class nation status if you ask me. I'm sure China will slow their weapons development so they don't get too far ahead. Smart move!

The fighter can stall from high speed, stopping forward motion in seconds. (full stall). Then it demonstrates an ability to descend tail first without causing a compressor stall. This aircraft is of concern to U.S. and NATO planners. We don't know which nations Will soon be flying the SU30MK hopefully China isn't one of them..... Other than the Army's FCS, the Times does a poor job of shedding much light on exactly what Obama would cut. That would be more helpful in deciding if his policies are sound or reckless. In a $512 billion dollar budget, there probably is some pork. I hope that Obama and his staff don't just blindly cut everything in Defense in sight in order to give free welfare checks to non-taxpayers (in Obama-speak, tax cuts), and fund wrong-headed, misnamed recovery programs. Any cuts that should be made need to be considered both in the light of current and potential future threats to national security. The problem with this apparent fiscal irresponsibility of the nascent Obama Administration and the newly liberalized Democratic majority Congress is that they may spend us into oblivion such that our nation will lack the resources in the future to deal with new technologies such as the SU30 mentioned by rajens00.

It is historically accurate that both the Carter and Clinton admins reduced budgets for the military and the intel communities to the point they left them ineffectual and described at the time as empty shells.
