Maybe Mark Steyn can cover this case.

In case nobody noticed, Islam is bent on the destruction of Western civilization. The cult has no tolerance for Christianity, Judaism or any religion other than its own. AIG claims its products are aimed at a global market and, as such, must satisfy diverse needs. This is a very noble sounding and business like claim, but at what expense? Surely someone at AIG must be aware that shari'ah funds must be invested in support of shari'ah goals (ie. the total destruction of Western civilization.) A pox upon the house of AIG and a pox upon Mr. Paulson AND especially a pox upon the dolts in Washington who rushed into this scheme with no regard for the Constitution or their constituents.

So one of the largest insurance companioes in the world figured out how to sell products to one of the largest denominations in the world. Selling Shariah compliant products doesn't mean it sponsors a religion. A majority of Muslims have no interest in destroying the western world. I'm a conservative Christian, and even to me, Mr. Gaffney comes off sounding like a far right reactionary.

I agree with hdc77494 on this. AIG did a lousy job of managing its money, but innovating ways of making money by finding a niche market in a certain culture like Islam is a threat to no one. Shariah compliant finance is one of the less disagreeable parts of shariah. I don't see a problem here. People like Mr. Murray who make an issue out of nothing like this are the same ones who are all too quick to litigate against prayer in schools or against Nativity scenes in public parks. Allowing special interests to pick apart and micromanage, with political correctness, AIG is a guaranteed formula for ensuring that it never recovers and that the taxpayers' money is lost. In short, shariah compliant finance is not an endorsement of Islam. It is like doing other things that international business do in order to get past cultural barriers and turn a profit.

Jaeger, I disagree. In long, accepting SCF on the American stage is an endorsement of Islam as the arbiter of Values and Justice. SCF is a threat to Capitalism and everyone involved in the "Free Market". SCF is one of the, if not the, most disagreeable parts of Shariah. To compare the activity of Mr. Murray, who is out to defend your rights on the Free Market, your property rights, and the Sovereignty Rights of the US citizen is disgusting. To consider this legal action and push against SCF as a micromanagement effort of political correctness is a farce and it is a dismissal of your own rights as a member of the board of AIG. The US Citizen is now 80% owner of AIG, and the stockholder holds rights in any Free Market Affair. And as far as your concern over picking apart the methodology of its recovery effort - we hold an 80% stake in the company and thereby controlling interest.

Sharia, in its financial aspect, is one of the means by which Moslems seek to gain acceptance of, and accommodation to, Islam in Western societies. The ultimate goal of Sharia is to move from being a parallel system (of finance, of law, of society) to becoming the dominant one. Sharia is predicated upon the three inherent inequalities of Islam: inequality between Moslem and non-Moslem, man and woman, and free man and slave. The intentions of Sharia as a financial system, are to finance terrorism as well as the Islamic rules over society: just as our dependence on Saudi oil ties us to those who seek our destruction and domination, so, too, allowing sharia-compliant finance is suicidal to our nation, our values, and our Constitution.

If financial dealings that flout US values and foreign policy are what worries you, you need look no further than the US fundraisers for the Israeli settlers who are using the money to finance the robbery of the public and private property of non-Jews on the West Bank. As for AIG, all it was doing was making its products more marketable to the several hundred million Moslems in the world - including several million US citizen Moslems.
