“The Carleton University Students’ Association has voted to drop a cystic fibrosis charity as the beneficiary of its annual Shinearama fundraiser, supporting a motion that argued the disease is not ‘inclusive’ enough. Cystic fibrosis ‘has been recently revealed to only affect white people, and primarily men’ said the motion read Monday night to student councillors, who voted almost unanimously in favour of it,” the Post reported.

Never fear … the vote may be reversed because the students, embarrassed by press coverage, are being informed that the disease may have a victim profile that looks like America (or Canada). And even Is sexist against girls.

The Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has said the disease affects boys and girls about equally, though it tends to kill girls more quickly, which means the number of disease patients at any given time will be mostly males. Also, though the disease does affect “Caucasians” disproportionately, though not exclusively, that category doesn’t map onto the everyday understanding of “white.”

“Caucasian populations include people from South America, Arabian countries, Israel, North Africa and populations from the Indian sub-continent,” the foundation clarified in a statement.
