Now, THAT is a Commander-in-Chief. Right on Mr. President. SCPO USN Retired

It takes great moral courage to meet face to face with the families of soldiers killed in action when you are the president who made the decision to go to war. It speaks well of the president and his vice-president. Good reporting. Jose Pires.

Hey, I feel so much better about being in Ar Ramadi, Iraq. If I get killed, why, my family will get a letter. Hot Dog.

. They do it because they care for all the people of this great nation, and especially for the families of our military who have given the last full measure of devotion to country. God bless President and Mrs. Bush and Vice President and Mrs. Cheney as they reach out with genuine compassion to the families of our fallen troops. This is the difference between a leader with moral clarity and a heart that is full, in contrast to an empty suit with no birth certificate who will say and do anything for political gain. .

They were motivated by guilt, not morality. Both ducked their chances to serve their country, but they gleefully sent others to perform what they would not. This story is balderdash.

There's a lot of things Bush & Cheney did for the good of the troops that the news media and you nor I never knew about. Bush is, for all practical purposes a good hearted person. He's not the guilty hearted individual as this Bush hater Weed thinks he's is. Weed you have no clue what is in a person's heart. Actions speak louder than words esp when it's done in secret. If he wanted this out in the public, I would agree with you but he didn't

I wonder if the children, wives, husbands, and parents of fallen soldiers feel about that letter. Wouldn't everyone want that person back, not a stupid letter? Every one that died deserves great praise for their courage. However, Bush should have saved going to war only for just cause. Bush can retire and have his family and life intact.

Bush, a draft dodging coward, got these 4000 soldiers killed based on lies and for a cause we still don't understand....but I'm supposed to be happy that he takes a half hour to talk to the family? Please. Thank God we are less than a month from competent leadership. Bush has brought this nation and its empire to the brink of destruction. You'd have to be without sense of reason to think otherwise. Economically, militarily and fundamentally....we are weaker than when he took office, and there is nothing in his actions that lead me to believe he cares for anything other then accumulating wealth for a small percentage of the population. History will look back on Bush for what he did and what he was, and there will be few kind words. The Right Wing white wash here won't help things either. - Veteran of the US Army

ReticulatingSplines... Let's talk facts now that you have spoken like a true idiot... Fact #1 (Military) http://arkansasgopwing.blogspot.com/2008/02/clinton-vs-bush-military-deaths.html US Military Deaths during Clinton Years: 5,217 US Military Deaths during the Bush Years: 3,964

Come on! If you believe this you believe that there are WMD in Iraq right now. Yes, letters were sent, and yes, they were signed by Bush. But the idea of him struggling over his lousy syntax for hours trying to compose 4500 letters is absurd. The Washington Times is participating in Bush's effort to revise his image while he's still in the WH and can rope a few people into listening to what he says. After next month no one will be returning his calls.

Fact #2 (Economy) http://www.aim.org/guest-column/the-cause-of-the-2008-financial-crisis/ Clinton and the Dems are mostly to blame for this debacle. Quote: A huge portion of the increased mortgage loan defaults are what are referred to as ‘sub-prime’ loans. Most of the sub-prime loans have been made to borrowers with poor credit ratings, no down payment on the home financed, and/or no verification of income or assets (Alt-A’s). Close to 25% of sub-prime and Alt-A’s loans are in default. These loans increased dramatically as a 9/30/99 New York Times article explained, “In a move that could help increase homeownership rates among minorities and low income consumers, the Fannie Mae Corp. is easing the credit requirements on loans that it will purchase from banks and other lenders.” Why would banks make such risky loans? The answer is that the Clinton administration pressured the banks to help poor people become homeowners, a noble liberal idea. Also the Clinton Justice Department threatened banks with lawsuits and fines ($10,000 per application) for redlining (discrimination) if they did not make these loans. Also ACORN (Obama’s community service organization) was instrumental in providing borrowers and pressuring the banks to make these loans.

Splines, I'm sorry everything looks so gloomy - maybe it comes from the guilt you incurred while serving in the American Army. Cheer Up it is Xmas Season. Cal

Reticulous and mis-stancer, you have allowed yourselves to be deceived. This news story makes clear that Bush and Cheney have a sense of honor and a sense of accountability. They pursued a course that all agreed was appropriate until it got hard, and they stayed the course towards victory. They have provided secret comfort to the wounded and survivors, even at great personal cost. And your response? Cheap shots. Words we all learned in elementary school need to be spoken to you, and you need to take them to heart: SHAME ON YOU. SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU, RETICULOUS and MIS-STANCER!

ReticulatingSplines, Thank you for your service to our nation. Thanks to the courage and self-sacrifice of people like you, all of us have the right to think and speak freely about any subject at all, including what we think of the President of the United States without fear of reprisal. When The Messiah Barack Obama made his European Idol Tour last summer, the climax of his visit was in Berlin, Germany. While there, Obama had scheduled a visit to our wounded military in Landstuhl Hospital. When Obama found out he couldn't bring reporters and cameras with him, he cancelled the visit. Realizing he wouldn't be able to "use" the visit to our wounded as political propoganda, he went to shoot some hoops instead. If that isn't spitting in your face soldier, I don't know what is. You're right, the contrast between George W. Bush and Barack H. Obama couldn't be more stark.
