Not a cheery picture. If ever there was a political leader in need of prayer, it's our new President, our Congress, and our Supreme Court. None of this dark vision by Mr. DeBorchgrave is necessarily inevitable. However, it is definitely possible, maybe even probable, if America does not make its economy into one that produces and rewards wealth and innovation and does not change its careless thinking about the threats posed by out-of-control federal government deficit spending.
Well as long as we're reviewing fiction rather than making sober forecasts about predictable events, might I suggest Orson Scott Card's Empire? Wherein the presidential line of succession is disrupted by a daring submersible-based mortar attack from the Potomac, and neo-Fascist members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff tear the USA apart battling a high-tech army created by ultra-liberal Hollywood billionaires? Heck, why stop there? How about a review of Gene Roddenberry's original Star Trek future history, where we have World War Three to look forward to in the next few decades?
Give me a break. Let's have some actual predictions from the Washington Times, or at least educated guesswork. I'm sure the near future can be quite dark enough, thank you, without treating baseless flights of fancy as sober analysis.
Now we know what section of Borders Arnie makes a beeline for...Sci Fi!
Giving credence to Fallow's lib-porn is a waste of space and our time. Fallows is wrong about 95% of the time but for some reason people still listen to him. Reading him once is bad enough, but having to read him twice is torture.
Fallows is the modern-day Cassandra. DeBorchgrave is overly taken with his journalistic flair. Venezuela and the world need our market and the US dollar...not that there isnt trouble ahead but it is manageable...item number one is REFORMING SOCIAL SECURITY AND OTHER ENTITLEMENTS. (I'd write a longer comment but this web site keeps rebooting and erasing my comments.)
