Our objective is not simply to disrupt gangs; it's to dismantle them," said Adam W. Cohen Well, Mr. Cohen, I sincerely hope you mean that, because it's way overdue. Personally I became so fed up with Law Enforcement's apparent indifference to gangs in my home city that last year I finally said "ENOUGH!" and moved. When we as a society allow, or require, our law enforcers to turn a blind eye to activity as vile as gangs, because they're "just kids", or for whatever lame reason, it's like there no longer is law in this land. When "kids" rape, murder, rob, terrorize, they are no longer anything related to innocence, and demand harsh full adult punishment and handling, PERIOD. I'm sure not going to get excited about this one until I see some action. Words are cheap, only action speaks to me on this one. Thanks for the heads up, Jennifer, great reporting. With luck before this is over you'll be following up your reporting with great success stories! ;-)

I echo the previous comment. It is time to end the gang culture, and the gangsta-culture, in the US. End the culture of reckless violence, arm the good peaceable citizens and build effective borders. Either we are equal or we are not. Good people ought to be armed where they will, with wits and guns and the truth.

This is another farce courtesy of the Bush regime. Seal the borders. Deport these parasites.

Why don't we have a national shoot on sight policy for gang members. If gangs are at war with the citizens we should reciprocate!!

This is so long overdue it is amazing. Let us all hope they are serious in their endeavor. The next thing we will need is a task force to round up all the illegal aliens hanging out at every building supply outlet.

As far as I'm concerned law enforcement needs to have the authority to suspend some civel liberties to fight these gangs. ICE needs to be involved since a lot of these gang members are illegals.

I am happy with any progress to fight organize crime. It will be a good idea also not to intervene in other countries conflicts. The Salvadorean gang did not originate it in El Salvador, but in Los Angeles where the salvadorians fleeing the civil war were viciously attack by the L.A. Gangs. El Salvador pay a hich price for the freedom of the United States, 75,000 deaths. And what did we get in return: nothing. Not even thanks from the american people.

Does anyone see a correlation between the increase in illegal immigration and the rise in gang crime? In Los Angeles, it seems as though more tragedy is committed by people who should not even be here. People are not coming here to be part of the dream. They are coming here to terrorize, victimize and exploit our way of life, our families and our government. Close the damn borders and get serious about deportation!

Peace and Love, It saddens me to see that people are so quick to believe all that they read on the news paper or hear on the TV. First of all, Gang violence and Crime is not at an all time high, it has been this way for a long time; the difference is that now that we have access to information on a massive level that it seems to be an epidemic. Secondly, you speak of protecting a way of life and people terrorizing the government, yet you fail to realize that your government and media are terrorist themselves and allow to make these "gangs" what they are. How is it that you have corporations that exploit and distort the ways of life of the impoverished and deprived? How is it that Media entities higher psychologist so that they can target our children and make then consumers, they make it a necessity! Hens, your society enacts what they believe is the "American Dream" because it is consistently being perpetuated to them that the only way to live and be socially accepted is to own material objects of "wealth" i.e. cars, cloths, jewels, and you get mad when someone goes out and takes it because the only job this person get is at minimum wage (if at all). WE are all to blame, but as always the majority never wants to take responsibility for the minority. Oh but you don't see how everything is connected though, because you live in your safe all white neighborhood with your six figure job, it doesn't concern you. You all forget that your fore fathers were immigrants, your fore fathers raped entire cultures of their lands and exploited their resources, yet we are the savages? Your people have proven time and time again that they are willing to exploit as far as their own people for the "Almighty Dollar", yet we are the ones threatening your way of life? We are a product of your oppression, your glorification of "gangsterism", your suppressive mentalities, and your unwillingness to see things from another perspective. Because it’s all about you! The problem with gangs is not that they are violent terrorist that threaten anything, it is that instead of actually doing anything about it, you pass it on the let someone else handle it. The problem is not resolved, it is simply detoured and recycled for the next generation to come and take it. Side note: Since when was being in a gang synonymous with being Latino? I am a proud son of El Salvadorian immigrants and they are hard working people who were never involved in any anti-productive activities. I am no gang member; my brothers are not gang members or any of my closest friends. And if you are going to have an opinion on something make sure you aren’t just talking s**t to talk it!

Also, Does anyone else notice the correlation between White CEO's and Corporate White Collar Crimes? We stop letting white people in corporate offices, after all they should even be here, the stole the land from indigenous, REAL Americans a long time ago and should make thier entities in europe where they came from! *Mocking Virion1: You see how retarted you sound, but i'm wrong for saying it and you aren't, thats the problem with society today!
