SEEN AND HEARD AT DOLPHIN STADIUM

MIAMI - What do big league pitchers do when it’s raining at 3:30 p.m. and they can’t throw their scheduled side sessions in the bullpen?

On Tuesday, Jason Bergmann, John Lannan and Joel Hanrahan joined pitching coach Randy St. Claire in an old-fashioned game of pepper. You know, the game in which one player tosses the ball toward a batter standing 20 feet away, who then slaps the ball back trying to one-hop it into the player’s glove.

There used to be signs all over major league ballparks demanding that pepper not be played, but those haven’t been around for years. It should be more commonplace.
