Senator Obama’s Patriotism – What it means to this Navy Veteran. I hope you consider the following article: Senator Obama's Patriotism - a Veteran's Perspective
It is found at:

I would be very willing to wager just about any amount that the vast majority of those who think that recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance constitutes some kind of patriotism would be unable to say anything intelligent about who authored the Pledge or its history.
And I would also be very willing to wager any amount that the vast majority of those who think wearing a flag pin makes one patriotic would be unable to discuss intelligently the origins of the Declaration of Independence or of the history of the Bill of Rights.
For most people, patriotism is nothing but a superficial show of some outward symbol by those who really know very little about this country. Let's face it, the vast majority in this country can not even name the first four Presidents and almost half do not even know from what country the colonies sought independence (in one poll a few years ago, most thought it was Germany.)
But polls are fun as long as one is cognizant of their limitations. Unfortunately, for many, polls are, as some wag once noted, like street lights for a drunk -- something to be leaned on for support, but not for illumination.
