Critics of death penalty hope for a phaseout

I am for a death penalty with the idea of a 'smoking gun' conviction. By that, I mean, an eyewitness along with a preponderance of evidence before a full jury. No bench trials, no press trials and trials should still be completed within a zone of the death. Pre-trial media should have no bearing on the jury and with todays media only the Amish would qualify as potential jurors. Yes, capital crimes need to be re-defined, procedural content and evidence content also. Most importantly before the government takes a persons life, the case should have full, impartial judicial review at a state supreme court level. Natural life should also be an option as part of a prison population working hard labor. Something productive for the society that is forced to care for them for their natural life.
