Virginia politics as usual...liars and thieves.
The fallacy behind this debate is that more money will alleviate the gridlock currently experienced in Northern Virginia and the Hampton Roads area. It won't! For years, local jurisdictions have approved unimpeded growth without taking into consideration long-term infrastructure costs, assuming that the costs would be borne by the state. The delegations from Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads have stood by while the businesses who pay for their election campaigns get rich and gridlock increased. Now the average voter, who gets very little direct benefits from the unchecked growth, ends up footing the bill and being told they have no choice in the matter. Not only that, but none of the "solutions" being proposed will even marginally lessen the gridlock we experience on a daily basis, but will serve to increase our long term infrastructure problems. Neither party currently has a viable solution, nor will a viable long-term solution be proposed until our elected officials stop pandering to vested interests and put the interests of the voting public first.
Republicans will keep losing elections until they stop acting like Democrats. If gas prices keep going up Virginia won't have to build a lot of new roads. People will transition to smaller cars and/or dive fewer miles. We should be seeing less congestion in many areas, especially urban areas with mass transportation systems.
Reminds me of OweMalley from Maryland. Special sessions and raising taxes. Lies, lies, lies
