This is a case of guilty until proven innocent. It seems like the government is viewing all of the citizens of D.C. as potential criminals.

All they need do is follow the example of states like Flordia , Texas and Tennessee. Kind of a NO Brainer , don't you think.?????

The Supreme Court's decision specifically mentioned the ability to use guns 'in common use'. Restricting the type or model is simply asking for a guaranteed successful lawsuit. Ditto any requirement to use a trigger lock, as these too were mentioned as an unconstitutional hindrance to the right of Self Defense. The D.C. City Council's action are those of spoiled children who will "Show them" after being corrected for wrong-doing.

All the DC pols should be thrown in the huo-scow for being anti "American Freedom".

"...imposed in 1976, the homicide rate dropped and it has leveled off in recent years, after peaking in 1991." Pardon me, doesn’t this mean that the homicide rate INCRESED for 15 years after the ban? This caption seems to be stretching credibility quite thin in order to imply the ban had a positive effect. The homicide rates of the entire country decreased after 1991, and the rate most likely reflects that, not any arbitrarily imposed ban on firearms.

In the decision I believe Scalia mentioned guns in common use or something to that effect. Since the gun of choice by the majority of gun owners is the semi then DC can not restrict. They better hurry - they have 21 days to comply. There are four in 'black robes' that should be impeached.

The learned council has refused to take a gun education course that has been offered to them twice. When they speak of Semi-autos and Machineguns, it is clear that they do not know what they are talking about and trying to regulate. They also overlook certain other factors such as the federal law that prevents individuals fromy buying handguns from out of state dealers. DC dealers will have to be allowed to sell to civilians if any private handguns are to be registered. There should also be some provision to allow DC residents to transport firearms to legal shooting areas so that they can obtain basic safety training and develop competence.

the semi-auto pistols they seek to ban started appearing in the early 1890s abd gave beeb in common usage for lawful purposes for over a century. They currently much more popular than revolvers among the general populace and the police.

Let's hope that it goes past the 21 day deadline and that these idiots are found "in contempt of court" and are fined accordingly. These fines should come out of their own pockets and not the city's coffers. If they make the deadline and incorporate these B.S. laws, take them back to court so that the court can enforce the ruling and will hopefully issue punitive measures. When that happens, this silly s**t will stop! The D.C. residents should remove these incompetent boobs from office as soon as practically possible.

"In the 1880s, other designers worked on self-loading designs. The first model to gain any commercial success was the Hugo Borchardt-designed self-loading Borchardt C-93 semi-automatic pistol, which was designed in 1893 and made its public appearance in 1894." - Wiki. Come on ... you can not ban a class of firearm(so says SCOTUS), and whats more, this design is nearly as old as commercialized revolver actions. Resist any entity that fears free men. Including fearing free men when they do not rely on gov for their well being.

The proposed DC ban on semi auto pistols as opposed to revolvers reveals the distorted, disfunctional mindset of near hysterical city officials who can't or won't deal with criminal behavior within their jurisdictions. They focus on catch phraises and emotionally charged terminology instead of questioning the liberal social policies that have predisposed generations to illegitimacy ,hopeless dependency and criminal behavior . Regarding the guns, I would think the buffoonish DC and administration would have a preference for a Mod. 1911 Colt with its three safety mechanisms, ejected casings which are forensically useful in criminal investigations, and a sound on chambering a round that would cause an intruding crackhead thug to turn white.

Problem is Woodpiggie, as you stated, the Hug-A-Thug philosophy supercedes using proven strategies in favor of promises of more promises. http://distantmirror21.blogspot.com/

The want to restrict semi-auto's that can fire more than 12 rounds without reloading, and if there exists - anywhere in the world - a greater than 12 rd. capacity magazine for a gun that comes from the factory with an 8 round capacity, then that gun is not allowed. An entire class of handguns, the most popular type sold in this country, are to be disallowed. The real question in my mind, is how the voters in DC could allow the clowns on Council and in the Mayor's office to STAY in office. Why don't they have a couple of recall drives, to get some of theses people out of office?
