It's time to move the U.N. out of the U.S. and into some of those area's where the human rights abuses are not happening, especially Africa. It would serve two purposes: (1) Improve the economy of the region and (2) allow them to perform real work toward human rights. Of course, before funding them we would want some measure of effectiveness to be realized. The world is really tired of paying the U.N. for child abuse, oil for food and traffic tickets. We would like to see accountability, reform and John Bolton back.
Those nations such as Nicaragua and the odious members of the Human Rights Council should be forced to pay for their own folly. If the anti-American, anti-freedom U.N. is so important to them, then they can fund it. Make U.N. "dues" voluntary, and let's see how many of these nations which currently contribute less than one percent of the organization's budget prove their commitment to the U.N.
I think it's time for OSHA inspectors to check out the asbestos-ridden UN building in NY and condemn it. They do not have the resources to remodel nor re-build, and maybe a new HQ in another country would give them a new outlook on the world and exactly where human rights issues are most prevalent. Maybe D'Escoto would like to go to work everyday in his home country. Hugo Chavez would probably donate the money to build the new building there. I agree that contributions should be made voluntary. Then we could opt out and let "friends of the UN" pick up the tab. They can then money-launder each other's money; that's the system they are accustomed to.
