Great reporting, Jon Ward, it's wonderful to log on to see some good news for once.

Obama's spokesman, Bill Burton should check his facts. Congress (Democrats) has been refusing to drill for 27 years not 30. So instead of embracing "change we can believe in", Obama does not believe drilling is even "worthy of our consideration"? How arrogant can these guys be? A huge number of our citizens are being bled dry by OPEC and our own Congress as both restrict the supply to such an extent that we are now paying over $4 a gallon for gasoline and the best way to increase supply is not even "worthy of our consideration". That comment should tell us all a lot about what Obama really thinks about us. At what point will it be "worthy"? Five a gallon - "We're not worthy". Ten -"We're not worthy". How much before it is "worthy" of these guys to even consider it? But Democrats are willing to sell the strategic reserve (apparently just in case our military ever needs it to fight a war where our oil supplies have been jeporadized, which is why we have the reserve). Perhaps we will have to beg Obama to "change" this stupid policy. But to avoid embarrassing him, we will need to beg in French or German. Actually I predict he will start to "revise and extend" his remarks on drilling if it appears to be cause for concern in his election bid. After all, he seems to be a genuine agent of "change" since winning enough delegates to secure the nomination. If he does change on this one make sure we thank him appropriately for his magnamity by giving him a great big "Merci beaucoup"! Then we can join Wayne&Garth and fall to the floor proclaiming "We're not worthy" to receive his benevolence. Worthy indeed. Obama is not worthy of this man's vote whether he changes his mind on drilling or not. I wonder just what ideals are "worthy" of this great man's consideration. Small minds want to know!

Onething

Democrats need high gas prices to keep the suffering going so their constituents will need them to fix things. However, the dems will always keep energy prices high to keep progress to a minimum so they can keep the thumb screws on the ignorant poor whom they count on to vote for their socialistic programs. After all the dems are the smartest people on the planet. Just ask them.

The human global network has evolved to many economic and cultural processes and systems around carbon energy to move off of it without a stability resource to keep those processes and systems in some type of equilibrium. The perfect example was the shift to biofuels. What we need to do is determine our projected energy and energy requirements and then begin planning a transition to alternative sources while analyzing the complex impact of that transition. There will be trigger events that drive the timetable of the development like oil reaching $100 a barrel. ANWR and off shore drilling will give us the equilibrium buffer to begin the transition to an alternative resource that has the same potential energy and utility as current carbon resources. What Congress can do is begin planning that transition and enforcing it through legislation that does not destroy our economy and our lives. Carbon trading and carbon emissions are not the answer. They only offer vulnerabilities for political and economic corruption because they are based on an unsubstantiated prediction model and their impact is non deterministic.

Agree completely RDH, except that he does not want us to ask in French or German, he wants us to speak Spanish, because some idiots think we have to learn it to get a job.

OPEN ANWR AND OFFSHORE DRILLING! I'm from Alaska and it's time for the sheep to stop following our socialist congress. The envirofacists say that ANWR is a holy ground that needs protected. Look at the facts people and make up your own mind. Where the drilling in ANWR would take place is flat tundra, not beautiful mountains and streams like the environmental groups want everyone to believe. Only 2000 acres of millions would be utilized by drilling rigs. The justification these idiots make is that it will only drop gas prices by a penny. Schumer says the same amount from OPEC will drop it by at least 40 cents though. HELLO, is anyone home? Trust me the minute we open up the reserves in the USA the price will come down dramatically. It won't take ten years believe me. If we want to move to clean energy it's time to go nuclear. During off peak hours the energy could be used to create hydrogen fuel from water. Doesn't get any cleaner than that. It will take 30 years to get converted though and transportation until then will stay very expensive unless we start drilling in the U.S. now. Cellulosic ethanol has some big potential as well. But none of these alternative sources are going to happen overnight. We need fossil fuels until these options are effiecient and online!

Just look at that lovely platform. It's exciting to be alive.

About time Bush. Shame you didn't do this your first day in office. Now, what about other steps you can take to get us drilling for oil as a major player again?

I second the "about time" comment, Rogue. As soon as it sinks in with Pelosi, Reed, ad nauseum that their "jobs" are gonna be at stake if they don't get with the energy independence program, be amazed at the turns they take in regard to domestic exploration and extraction. Obama? Well, he has proven already that he'll change his tune quick depending on the winds of public opinion and polls. Time for America to be a major player in the energy business, enough is enough, and leave Saudi Arabia and Venezuela to do business with someone besides us. Can't happen soon enough.
