McCain's campaign surely could use an "assertiveness injection", but John McLaughlin ceased to be a Republican campaign strategist eons ago. Instead, he has become a flailing ranter against the party he formerly served.
McLaughlin's slide into irrelevance reminds me of Tom Braden, who crumbled before us, in the presence of his Crossfire foil, Pat Buchanan.
This brings up another point. Am I the only one who notices how Buchanan seems to tolerate with grace and patience the rambling, shouting, sometimes shrieking mental deterioration of his associates - Braden, McLaughlin, Eleanor Clift, Chris Matthews?
"traditionally Republican strength"
Traditionally Republican strength? Come on! The Democrats, like all political groups, have been using "rapid media response" since politics were first invented thousands of years ago. Just read the New York Times articles from the civil war period for great examples of what Democrats have been doing since they formed.
Here's another possibility: McCain is too senile to remember what to say. Who is off to Czechoslovakia? And how about his manufactured statements he claims Obama made? He cited a quote from Obama as being from today when he actually said it back in January.
