Planners for the Republican National Convention have met a $39 million fundraising requirement set by the Republican National Committee.

The Minneapolis-St. Paul 2008 Host Committee was required to have the $39 million in cash and in-kind donations by Tuesday under its deal with the RNC’s Committee on Arrangements.

The group has said it is still shooting to raise $58 million by the convention, which starts Sept. 1. The additional funding will cover insurance, parking and transportation, events and CivicFest - a Minnesota-centric patriotic festival running alongside the convention.

“While we are happy to meet our contractual obligations, we are actively continuing our fundraising efforts to reach our overall fundraising goal of $58 million,” said Jeff Larson, chief executive officer of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul 2008 Host Committee.

The host committee also reached its goal of signing up 10,000 volunteers by the convention.
