I believe we are in deep trouble with either candidate. To put it as politely as I can, one is a melon head and the other is a brick head. It is getting more and more obvious that we are not getting the best people we can. When we do get someone who could run the country with a voice of reason he can't win a primary.

This article would have been much more useful (and also newsworthy) if it had focused a little more on the remedy to this situation: vote independent. Vote Nader or vote Barr, but vote independent. Better yet, this article could have suggested that those voters who always vote for the major party candidates for fear of being one of the citizens whose vote was 'siphoned' by an indepedent candidate, follow the VotePact.org strategy: if you're a democract, find a republican, and agree to both vote independent; if you're republican, vice-versa. It's time for the media to start journaling with some more integrity. It's time to start working to salvage and reclaim the fortitude of our corporate-abused democracy. Cute one-liners and catchy phrases aren't helping right now, Pruden. How about taking a stance on this problem and issuing a solution? "This could be the big break for Ralph Nader and Bob Barr. Together they could break 1 percent," you write. Ralph Nader is polling, according to around a dozen national polls, at 6% nationally. Barr is at around 3%. These candidates (and others!) need and deserve your attention right now. What they don't need and don't deserve are articles which sarcastically dismiss their efforts in a wholly unpatriotic attempt at humor. We don't need humor, Pruden. We need everyone, editors emeritus included, to start taking some civic responsibility. -Peter

Wes Pruden is spot on as always. I am an independent but will hold my nose and vote McCain for lack of anyone better. Rainwalker out to come in out of the rain.

We are sunk with either of these candidates! While millions of citizens have lost good paying jobs, these two will either grant amnesty, earned citizenship and allow more and more visa and guest workers to come here. Obama will tax us to death, as well as US companies, which in turn, will cause those companies to leave or shut down...as we are already losing too many to Mexico or China. McCain, the free trader, will not become a fair trader! Is there a chance we can ever get a good 3rd Party...cause we sure need one now.

Rainwalker says "we don't need humor" Of course we do. Pruden and Tyrrell get more across with their barbs than most writers do in 1000 words. Frankly I even enjoy the left's humor. Lighten up , the election will be over in a few months and we can all go back to reading about Brittany and all those other clones.

First, why don't we pay our candidates back in U.S. dollars? McCain has to show us a realistic strategy on Iraq now that we have worn out the welcome mat. McCain's energy plans are sound, though that global warming being caused by carbon dioxide is scientific fraud much like the Fusion in the Bottle silliness in the 1980s. Also McCain needs to show a viable solution to the immigration mess, and then we won't worry about his age ( PC. not withstanding). Finally, how about fiscal control?

Has anyone seen that cover on the New Yorker? Absolutely hilarious. Osama bin Obama's people say that everyone will find it distasteful, and although I think that it might have gone a little too far, it is still funny as hell.

As for me and my house, we are voting for Jesus. I don't know if He would return to earth ahead of scheduled if He was elected, but we surely need Him now! Maranatha!

Obama is way too sensitive to the NY'rs barb. He wants to curtail everyones right to free speech except this own. Don't put up with tripe. He's trying to get everyone to forget about his "terrorist" wife and her $600 earrings while they overlook his patronage of left-leaning bombers and psuedo-intellectuals. Who is this guy anyway? I can't figure what he stands for.

I can't decide which election had the biggest duds: Nixon-Humphrey, Nixon-McGovern, Ford-Carter, Bush-Clinton-Perot, Clinton-Dole, Bush-Gore, Bush-Kerry, or Bush-Obama, . . . oops I mean McAmnesty/Commie-bama. We sure come up with a lot of losers, not to mention the hundreds in Congress! Politics is not the answer to anything.
