The ongoing investigation means they are trying to recapture the guy to make up for the mistake. This is a trend within the Bush administration of looking the other way with regard to our neighbors south of the border and our law enforcement agents. This is a result of the the lack of immigration legislation which neither the Congress or the President are willing to tackle. Eventually the states will get fed up and begin taking their own legislative and legal actions. It will end up in the Supreme Court. The Congress needs to act on it NOW. If they would have moved after 911, they would have had the ability to integrate Homeland Defense, National Security and Immigration. Instead all we have is our agents getting killed or put in jail while the illegal immigrant perpetrators are released to go about their business. The government seems to have adapted a "through the looking glass" policy on this.
I am as upset about this guy being released as anybody. But I just have to wonder if the reason the the gov't did not do what they normally do in a case like this, is so that they can get this guy without the promise that they will not seek the death penalty. I have not heard that anywhere just a guess on my part. Either the gov't did this for a reason or someone was really asleep at the wheel, there is no middle ground on this one.
