Even more than his royal "polishness" is the Jester's social conscience. If we elect a President through social conscience, we deserve what we get.

During the same period Tyrel refers to where Obama's standing supposedly slipped, McCain's economic advisor called Americans whiners, McCain reshuffled his campaign team, McCain referred not once but twice to a no-longer existant country (Czechoslovakia), muddled his message on adding troops to Afghanistan (will it be ours? European? Both? Who knows?), and otherwise continued to sound confused. And Obama outraised him more than two-to-one for the month, mostly through small donations from people like me instead of the hyper-big donations from fat cats like McCain does. In short, if anyone had a bad month, it wasn't Obama, who, by the way, leads in all the national polls. The amazing thing isn't that Obama "only" leads McCain by five points, but that a black man leads a much-beloved-by-the-press war hero by anything and continues to generate the sort of enthusiasm that leaves McCain's campaign team (and you) complaining about "vacuous" speeches about hope that are obviously inspiring people a whole lot more than McCain's dreary little complaints about Obama's speeches.

Sen. John McCain, when directly debating Obama, will wilt. He will be seen as pathetic and somewhat deranged. Tyrel's "dead heat" is not now close and the divide will expand as the economy continues to struggle and voters fume at $4 gas and skyrocketing food prices.

Wow. I don't often read this rag, but this is one of the stupidest columns ever. What a pointless waste of ink on a truly pointless and juvenile point of view.

One thing John McCain would not do is "wilt". If Obama had any backbone at all, he would agree to meet McCain in the series of town hall meetings as he has been challenged to do and refused. Without his handlers and scripted speeches to back him up, there is no doubt in my mind, that Obama would be the one doing the wilting and would be shown up for the empty suit that he really is.

"The amazing thing isn't that Obama "only" leads McCain by five points," A Newsweek poll release on Sunday, July 13, shows Obama with "only" a 3 point lead (and not 5), which is within the +- 3 point margin of error. In other words, a statistical dead heat. Thats a 12 point drop of Obama's lead in the same poll a month ago. It's obvious that Obama is losing support while McCain is gaining, and in large numbers. It looks to me that this "much-beloved-by-the-press war hero" is kicking your boy's ass!

Mr. Tyrell seems to be implying the media favors Mr. Obama. Well now that the "Big Three" network anchors have announced they will be following Obama around on his "Take back the world" tour perhaps he will change his tune.

Cobra - If you call being behind in every single poll of every swing state, and behind in national polls "kicking Obama's ass", then you're whistling by he graveyard. McCain's campaign team is a disaster: there's less excitement, less money, poorly written position papers, constant backtracking. If the election were held today, he would get whumped.

In this article, Mr. Tyrrell merely opines that Mr. Obama seems to have no sense of humor, at least by any account that he can fathom. I find that to be credible, adding flavor to the facts that Mr. Obama has done nothing, written nothing (except a book about His Glorious Self) and said nothing of great interest. Most of his words -- hope, change, etc. -- ring right out of 1991's Clinton campaign, after which "hopes" were rapidly dashed and nothing at all changed, except for the worse. What we got was the most deceitful and corrupt presidency in modern history, if not all of history. And yet, we have the Obamaites chiming the same, even though Obama, himself, has not even a small fraction of the experience purportedly attributed to Slick Willy. How any intelligent person could support Obama for what, of all things -- The President of The United States? -- is beyond my ken. I suppose media brainwash has a lot to do with it. Thanks to Mr. Tyrrell for trying to set us straight, as he did in his book, The Clinton Crackup. Hopefully he will not need to write another about Obama and his lovely bride.
