"The Obama and Pelosi Democrats are captives of their global-warming special interests, who are dead-set against drilling" To bad that's true. Americans ought to be for Americans. Democrats quit being Americans when they elected Slick Willie, now most Democrats want to behave like Euro trash.

The Democrats control corporation's through extreme environmental legislation. They will not give up this control even if it means pushing the country into a recession. They are the ones putting constraints on the 10 year process of drilling. The Republican's need to show that they have met the challenge with a viable solution and that the Democrats are elitist and will do anything to maintain their control including going against the will of the people. Next the Republicans along with the McCain need a transition plan because drilling will only provide limited energy and economic stability. The objective should be to provide legislation to complete the transition to alternative sources by the time the drilling stability ends. This is a viable energy policy, not using Y2K tactics to push people toward global governance with a hot spot, tree ring, hockey stick global warming state of fear policy to protect us from ourselves.

America is bleeding out at two different sources: first, buying foreign oil; second, a massive trade imbalance with China. The President should enact a tariff on Chinese goods entering the U.S. He should include a tariff on U.S. sales of foreign-owned vehicles. The proceeds of these tariffs should be used to build nuclear power plants and to offset tax exemptions/rebates on sales/purchases of hybrid/electric vehicles, and R&D on electric/hydrogen vehicles.

With high prices it makes sense to drill here. American companies should be making the dollars we send overseas to purchase oil. My 401k would really enjoy the benefits. If it is true we can produce the shale oil we have at around $30 a barrel, we should be producing it like there is no tomorrow. Especially if it is true that we have 3 times the oil in our shale as Saudi Arabia has under its sands. Why do we sit back and do nothing with our own supplies? I can understand to a certain extent keeping it in the ground when prices were low and supplies plentiful. But with the global economy moving as it is (esp. China and India), which will only keep increasing the pressure on the supply, it makes sense to start developing our own.

If we believe everything we read these days, we are living in the Democrats dream world....GLOOM-DOOM-DESPAIR bounds all across America. The airline industry, the automobile industry, and the trucking industry are all suffering which affects all our citizens. 35 years ago during another energy crisis, Jimmy Carter said OPEC had a knife to our throats, and from all indications, they still do...Why is this? From more than a few reports, we are sitting on more oil than we could ever use. Countries all over the world are drilling but we can't drill!!!!. ANWAR has been estimated to have from 5.6 billion to 16 billion barrels of oil and we can't drill in a very small area of a very large space because of caribou! In fact we are not allowed to drill anywhere in America where they will actually find oil. The United States with all our technology cannot be trusted to drill oil safely, so say the sanctimonious Democrats in Congress. Why else would they refuse to open us this country to our natural resources? We are sending billions of dollars out of this country for oil that could be spent at home enriching the lives of our citizens. The Democrats are so caught up in the global warming hysteria, they could care less about what the average citizen is going through. Raising our taxes, forcing us to buy light bulbs from China that could kill us....I could go on and on about the stupidity of the policies of this global warming fraud controlling the Democrats way of thinking. I can understand why people who live off the taxpayers would vote for this sorry bunch, but I do not understand how any clear thinking working American could vote for any Democrat in November.

The Republicans need to find a way to whip the public up so the pressure becomes unbearable on the Democrat clique and show that they the Democrats will suffer the consequences in the election as a result. The Republicans low key approach is insufficient to achieve a reversal in time. It needs to be more than a drumbeat..it needs to be in your face and shrill while pointing fingers at Reid, Pelosi and company as the villains in the oil price war.
