Conservatives have nothing to fear from faith based evangelicals. RINO's do...get over it. Russ Ramey Lima, Ohio

Ousting Grassely is utter insanity. The Republicans are finding still a new way to lose.

Dogma triumphs politics every time. That is why you want separation of church and state. Religion and politics are like a power trip. Politics and ethics or religion and ethics will moderate each other and cancel out excesses. This is what the Founding Fathers understood when they tried to restrict the influence of King George and the Church of England.

IowaRepublican

I was there and do not see this the same way as the press prefers to report it. Only two people ran for Comitteeman 1) Mr. Roberts - an attorney who is approaching 70 and has held this position for 20 years, and 2) Mr. Scheffler, president of ICA. Mr. Roberts spoke to the audience of 1,200+ delegates, physically shook and talked like a man 20 years older. He did not send a strong signal of confidence. I seriously thought the man was terminally ill. In the 20 years Mr. Roberts has held the position, the Republicans have gone from feast to famine - all the while marching further and further to the left. This may or may not be of any of Roberts doing, but he is part of the Party establishment that has lost members and donations. Could it be that Mr. Roberts lost because the delegation was unhappy with the job he has done and the only person running against him was Mr. Scheffler? On the committee women's side, three ladies ran. Sandy Greiner, who had the endorsement of every Republican in the Iowa House, if I recall correctly, also carried with her the stigma of party establishment. Sandy's first competitor (who I will not name) did not come to the stage dressed for the occasion. She leaned a hard left in the message that I did hear. Sandy's other competition was Kim Lehman. Kim is a very attractive, educated, highly articulate, young lady. She is also the president of Iowa Right to Life. The right to life is not a new concept to the Republican Party. It has been a major party platform ever since I can remember. Again, could it be that the vote was against a failing party establishment and Greiner's only competition was Lehman? It should be pointed out that Senator Grassley did not attend the convention even though he was scheduled to speak. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that a person's chances of being elected to a delegation are greatly improved by showing up during the nominating process. Gopal Krishna was the one person nominated to the National delegation who was removed from it by the state delegation and replaced with someone who might be considered more centrist. I'm curious why those complaining about the process and selection did not feel strongly enough to have chosen Mr. Grassley to take Krishna's place. The Republican Party of Iowa will survive this issue even while the press tries to splinter it up. If Mr. Scheffler and Ms. Lehman do not follow the Party platform, and donations to the party do not come up, then they too will likely be replaced by the next delegation.
