Huessy and Welch probably are right that the U.S. needs to keep a viable nuclear inventory for the foreseeable future. But does it need to comprise 8000-10,000 warheads? It seems to me that it could be halved and still be far and away the strongest deterrent inventory in the world. At some point, it probably should be halved again.
