OPERA: 'Carmen' as powerful as ever

I agree .. this was a delightful 'Carmen' with innovative humor balancing the darkness of the main story. Warschawski was especially great as Jose. I didn't notice problems with the chorus, who had some splendid moments. Recommended.

I'm saddened by the hostess' knee-jerk response of "Ew, opera. I don't like opera," because I sincerely doubt she'd ever seen an opera to know whether or not she likes it. Unfortunately, opera seems to be getting a bad reputation in more visible forms of media, biasing people against it before they even give it a second thought. I can't tell you how many of my friends I couldn't convince to come see this production, and I'm in the darned thing! Here's hoping we can bring more positive exposure to an art form that's so often slighted by people who don't know better!
