The bridge that Mr. Pickens is discussing is a transition plan that evaluates our existing energy needs and existing energy supplies and lays out an objective of how meet those requirements while transitioning to energy independence. It may require additional carbon fuels in conjunction with hybrids, electric, wind, and nuclear to stabilize the integrated energy/economy system. Those additional fuels should have the constraint of providing for independence and come from the U.S. sources. We have them in the form of oil sand, oil shale, coal and natural gas. Therefore, Mr. Pickens is correct in stating global warming is secondary to survival and the Democrats in Congress need to know that our economic survival should have priority over a global warming evolved to climate change evolved to climate crisis model that is non deterministic (no proven cause and effect relationship) and has violated 72 of 89 discernible weather prediction principles. As Mr. Pickens says, we should invest in energy independence, but the decisions on the portfolio and management of the investment should be based on a scientific energy/economic analysis and NOT an Emmy, an Oscar, a Nobel Peace Prize and consensus.
Perhaps Mr. Pickens may have an ulterior motive in his push for those pretty little windmills? Could it be that he is heavily invested in them and stands to make a lot of money? Does anyone have any more information on this?
The hypocrisy, however, lies with the do-gooders who destroyed entire logging industries to protect the spotted owl yet have remained silent when it comes to the the wind turbines chopping up golden eagles, not to mention the thousands of other birds who have flown into these slaughter houses.
Then we have Senator Kennedy who opposes the building of the windmills. According to one report,
"The wind turbines would be built in Nantucket Sound, about six miles off the coast from the Kennedy compound in Hyannis,"
"The problem was not aesthetic; the Kennedys wouldn’t be able to actually see the turbines from their home. Instead Robert Kennedy Jr., who had been beating the drum for alternative sources of energy for more than a decade, complained that the project would be built in one of the family’s favorite sailing and yachting areas.”

Hum.....
Whether you agree with him or not, it's refresing to hear someone lay out a vision that seems practical and attainable.
If "We the People" don't stop all this partisan bickering and nit-picking and looniness (i.e.: windmills called a "slaughter house" - GIVE ME A BREAK!@!), the point will soon be moot. We'll all be living in caves and tents living off of roots and berries.
It's time to move forward with all of these plans. We've debated this long enough.
I think Mr.Pickens is at best self-serving. He makes a bundle producing and speculating in oil, which is completely fine with me. Then he turns around and decides that "we cannot drill ourselves out of this crisis". Seems to me he did not have a problem drilling and speculating himself into riches.
His energy plan proposes for us to ignore the development of our own reserves. Why not allow part of that $700 Billion to stay at home through drilling and refining in ANWR, the Continental Shelf, and everywhere where there are economically feasible reserves? I remember the argument against developing oil shale reserves was that the economics were not there, that oil had to reach $42/barrel for the development of this resource to be profitable. This was at a time where the petroleum industry was struggling with $12/barrel prices. Mr. Pickens: Time to drill and refine, along with your more expensive wind and solar power alternatives.
before anyone takes this character seriously, he needs to disclose his financial position on the alternative energy industry...Gore baby should be required to do the same...by the by...my neighbor is in the airforce...flies the F22...he was over this weekend, and over a casual glass of wine I had the question ...how may solar panels will it take to get the F22 off the ground....!!!
Pickens is pulling a Al Gore. He's leasing hundreds of acres of land for proposed windmills. He has invested in several companies that deal in wind power and solar power generators. This came out today. Don't you think that if this man made billions off of oil and gas that he is still in it for the money? Also his idea about developing more gas generation requires more drilling, and what is he saying about we can't drill our way out of this problem? The only problem is that the Congress won't even let Pickens drill the gas wells he's talking about. So there goes half of his idea. Secondly he's talking about America being off foreign oil in 20 to 30 years!!? My god if anyone listening to his commercials or seeing him on tv is over 50 they will have one foot in the grave and somebody else will be taking care of them in a nursing home or something, and Pickens will be DEAD!! If he's the one with the big ideas he won't live long enough to see them come true. Besides he's talking to us like we've never heard of what he's talking about. If there was enough government money in these energy sources don't you think someone would have come up with alot more ways to convert over homes and buildings and cars and whatever else by now? That's the deal. There's no government money in those things, and there's not enough private money to be a big enough deal of it yet. It's all a big scam on the American people to see what they are going to bite on next. They don't know if battery powered cars are going to catch on yet, and there seems to be alot of growing opinion towards drilling and drilling here. So Pickens and many others like him are trying to cover their bases to see where their next fortunes are going to come from. Gore already is rich from his carbon tax/"investment" corporations, Pickens doesn't want some idiot like Gore to outdo him. Pickens met before a Congressional committee today. Tomorrow we'll see what is going to come of it. We'll see what comes of the scam part2. Who is trying to convince us here him or the government? How much of our money is he going to get? You had better watch him!!
Willofla ,, 1.) you might want to read and listen to what he actually says,,, your comments that we will need new drilling and congress won't let is totally inaccurate,, his plan specifies using current NG from power plants usage which could be supplanted by wind power.
2.) to say we do not have enough natural gas without drilling in ANWAR or the OCS is extremely uninformed on your part! Please google barnett shale and see what happens!! you will be disappointed I'm sure:) Then you might also want to see what the reserves for NG are in NAPR (national(naval) alaskan petroleum reserve) which also has trillions of gallons waiting to be drilled and both sides of congress willing to build a pipeline if they could put aside partisan politics that is holding this country hostage!!
3.) your assumption we will all be dead so drill in ANWAR and the OCS is even more uninformed since known reserves are all estimated and no matter how patriotic you may think Big Oil is ,, they are not going in there without all surveys and test drilling being completed first not to mention all other infrastructures like pipelines refineries ect. which could develop the oil and gas where they are EVENTUALLY found not where they are believed to be!!
4.) If the only thing you can say is DRILL DRILL DRILL please go collect your check from the RNC.
5.) If he makes a profit from doing something that actually helps this country in the future, how is this different from Big Oil trying to keep us locked in the past with there 100 billion a year habit which is funding the middle east?????
The real reason we pay such a high cost is very simple. I'll give you two words "TAX REVENUE". The federal government won't allow drilling because they want the billions the state makes in "TAX REVENUE". Don't believe it? I have proof. Want to know the real reason they won't drill in ANWR. It is very clear. You can read the entire legislative hearing but the details start at the bottom of page 80 of the PDF file or page 76 of the actual document. It starts with House of Representatives Edward J. Markey, Massachusetts. They were willing to drill for the oil in ANWR if the Federal Government would get at least 50 percent of the tax revenue. Alaska did not state a position on it. The bill died because of it. You see the reason why we pay so much for gas is very simple. If the oil comes from within the U.S. the state from which it is mined gets 90 percent of the tax revenue. This equals billions of dollars...BILLIONS. The federal government figured out that if they make the regulations so difficult that it would be cheaper for the oil companies to get the oil from outside of the U.S. than the Federal government would get 100% of the tax revenue. Not 10 or 50%. It has nothing to do with the oil cartels. Your saying that is just one Congressmen and that was 2003. Well ladies and Gentlemen, want to know the current bill being proposed? It proposes drilling offshore and the "tax revenue" being distributed evenly among the states. It is called DOER, HR 6108, and the Deep Ocean Energy Resources Act of 2008. Guess what? It is doing quite well. Why is that? IT IS BECAUSE OF THE "TAX REVENUE"!!!!!!

You all heard about the Government taxes on gasoline being between 36 to 64 cents on every gallon. What you don't see is the taxes made on the OIL BEFORE IT IS MADE INTO GASOLINE. Sorry folks this isn't some conspiracy by the oil companies or some elaborate master plan by OPEC and the tree huggers. I watched this hearing. These dirt bag Congressman take the money from Green Peace and it is politically expedient for them but it has nothing to do with their decisions. It is very plain and simple our own Government is screwing us because the feds want what is not theirs so they make law and restrictions on states to prevent them from getting the tax revenue. We have more oil than all of OPEC combined and we are the only nation in the world that prevents drilling for oil. The United States is the only developed nation in the world that forbids energy production on its OCS—Cuba is allowing other countries, like China, to drill for oil close to 50 miles off the coast of Florida, while America sits with its hands tied.

If this guy wants to build a sea of windmills on his property and create his own energy company, that is great. One problem though, why does he need to sell us the idea of creating the energy? I guess he wants us to pay for it so he can collect the profit. It would be one thing if he was pushing alternative energy. Windmill power has proven to a very minimal and reliable source of energy. Regardless, we sure as hell can drill our way out of this mess. When the Government comes out we says we are going to allow drilling and the next day oil drops $8 dollars in one day and has continued to drop, we are on to something. DRILL NOW!
This old coot is still in it for the money. It came out the other day on the radio from actual news releases that Pickens has leased hundreds of acres of land for wind generator use. He had invested heavily in wind and solar power generation companies. He's nothing but another Al Gore. This technology has been around for decades, but hasn't gotten the government funding it needed to really take off. Now we have people like Gore and Pickens pleading to the Congress to allow the governments support to go their way. And sure these are viable technologies in energy production. We do need to pursue every form of technology in production of America energy needs. But that does not give these filthy rich old men to act like it's the first time they really felt like it would be worth their attention, oh yeah, and they want to be green while they are at it. What a big bunch of crap! Where were they decades ago when these things needed big money like from a Pickens or whoever mr. big bucks? These people NEVER spend their own money on things unless they can be assured by the invested entity that they can get their investment back quickly and first. It's the return on their investment. And if Pickens thinks if he can get the American taxpayer to pick up the tab, AND give him the return on his investment he wants, business is business. But when it comes to my tax money paying for a private enterprise, that's where I draw the line. I can see tax cuts to a business in conducting their business, but when somebody like Pickens wants the government to pay for a better part of that business, you can forget it. I look at it this way, if Pickens thinks it's worth his time and money, then he ought to pay for it himself. If he losses his money then tough. Otherwise leave my money alone. Secondly he met before a Congressional committee to ask for them to allow the drilling he wants to complete his agenda of using gas to power other energy generation. If the Congress under Nancy Pelosi won't allow drilling and the American people are telling her to drill, how much of a chance does this rich old coot think he has? DRILL NOW, DRILL HERE!!
willola ,,
did you actually listen to the entire hearing???
are do you still think the whole alphabet is DRILL??
