So much for a nation of laws. It just shows you how government can harass citizens so much that heir rights are made meaningless.

The people depend on the police to protect them but the crime rate hasn't gone down. When they want to protect themselves, their government says no. Sounds more like an autocracy than a democracy.

If you have ten thousand regulations you destroy all respect for the law. - Winston Churchill.

Here is evidence that the city government of Washington, DC does not want the citizens to be able to defend themselves. Then they must be ready to take moral and legal responsibility for protecting those people. Are the mayor and Chief of Police ready to accept liability for failures to fulfill that responsibility? I bet not.

D.C. is certainly testing the decision of the SCOTUS. I don't think the new laws will manage to see their way through the courts without being stripped of some of the most onerous provisions. But, I do think that Scalia's opinion that only provided for guns in the home for self defense lends itself to regulation along these lines. Having said that, this op-ed is pretty comical as people cower and worry about the masses of criminals invading their homes every night - the ones that need to be fought off and repelled by massive armament. Seriously? Without using anecdotal evidence and responses to surveys, but actual facts, how many home intrusions are ended by either the branishing of a gun in a criminals face or discharging of said gun while you Rambo-up and protect the homeland? If you take out the answers from surveys that say "I have a gun, I turned on my lights, and the thug left my front yard" which turns into "I have a gun and ran him off" answer, I would guess the numbers are very very low.

No liberal politician in the US wants the citizens to be armed and capable of defending themselves. If they were armed they wouldn't be dependent on the government, and might think for themselves. Independent citizens runs against the neo-feudlistic thought patterns of the liberals, they want to be the new Nobels and Royals of a feudal nation.

The District needs to be abolished, and its land and people apportioned between the neighboring states who will provide laws in accordance with the U S Constitution, not the whims and fancies of a bunch of crooks, hustlers and con men who see it as their personal 'cookie jar'. The US Congress, which is supposed to provide oversight of that sick institution has not done so, and clearly has no intention of ever doing so.Thus the world's most famous criminal enterprise continues to operate to the detriment of its citizens and to the eternal embarrassment of our country.

The next time we hear about statehood for D.C. this should be exhibit A as to why it's not a good idea. It's not just a failure of government...it's a failure of citizenship. That city council is not only a bastion of arrogance and corruption, it is a reflection of the ignorance of the District voter. Sorry. If this is all the respect you have for our Constitution, enjoy your deserved status as second class citizens. (Just another example of the brilliance and prescience of the Framers)

The DC response reminds me of the southern "massive resistance" to the Brown vs. Board of Education decision. This is what happens when you have one party rule....especially when that party is the socialist party. If BHO wins in November get ready for this kind of stuff on a national basis.

I predicted this as well. See my blog 'Let the foot dragging begin' D.C. WILL lose but they'll brag about 'Lives Saved' and the need for other Liberal claptrap like Home Rule. (Home Rule is like State's Rights but Liberals won't use that phrase because it's 'Racist') and THEIR version of Home Rule let's them ignore the Constitution. Hopefully the court(s) will hold the entire D.C. City Council in criminal contempt as well as Mayor Fenty AND Chief Lanier. Read my National Blog at www.washingtontimes.com/communities/gun-rights/
