Thom Loverro: Addiction is the real affliction

Just like an alcoholic who gets behind the wheel and kills someone when drunk is not forgiven for his actions, neither should these "addicts" be insulated from the consequences when they break the law. Donaghy broke the law and betrayed the league that had provided him a dream lifestyle that just wasn't enough. He deserves prison and and all the heartache that goes with it. If he will benefit from treatment when he gets out, I hope he gets it, but let's not put the cart before the horse. The "victim" here is the NBA and it's damaged credibility (without which it has nothing to offer) and Donaghy's wife and children. The people who are falling all over themselves to tell us he has a "disease" seem to me to be moving him to the front of the line.
