"to save energy, cut carbon emissions and try to mitigate climate change." If this was the true statement by Secretary Ki-Moon, then he is stating that by controlling carbon emissions, he can control the change in climate. He must have some secret that farmers really need to be aware of. He also needs to provide his insight to Edward Lorenz. OR he is just attempting to move the swarm toward creating a perpetual welfare fund for the U.N. (carbon trading and carbon tax) and promote global governance.

The UN should just do what Al Gore does, buy offsetting carbon credits - that way you can crank up the AC, drive SUVs, etc guilt free!

It’s about time. My home thermostat is set @ 79 deg during summer and 69 deg for winter months. And no one had to tell me what temperature should I set it at. It's a common sense. Believe me, I'm not concerned with controlling carbon emissions, at the expense of comfortable living. I'm for energy independence that US can reach by immediate offshore drilling, building more refineries, nuclear power plants, as well searching for new renewable energy sources, without taking any drastic measures to accomplish it. I wish UN was still standing for principles that it was established for.

Well I keep my thermostats (I have two complete systems in my house) set at 59 in the summer. If this foreigner tried that where I work, I think I would sneak up behind him with a 2x4 for some education. What an idiot. Christ I don't even keep my thermostat that high (79) in the Winter.

It's a good symbolic gesture on the part of the UN. It will take gestures like this to begin to change the culture surrounding our habits. And Hadley, I doubt your "education" style will prove to be effective if only to land you in jail, as well as showing your level of ignorance.

Better yet, lets just close the useless U.N. and save even more carbon emissions! I love how the theory of Global Warming has somehow become a known fact with no real evidence to substantiate this claim. Not to mention the fact that the average daily temperature has declined over the past 10 years. Lets consider history and weather trends - when it was warmer prosperity flourished due to high crop yields, when it was cooler, there was death and famine because of small crop yields - I'll gladly take warm weather.

This is a dumb move! See the op-ed column I wrote in response to Joe Klein's recent "Kill your air conditioner" article in Time Mag. at: http://www.boomertrek.com/Opinion/Kill-AC.htm . In the '70s Jimmy Carter ordered that thermostats in Gov't bldgs be raised in the summer. So everyone started bringing in small fans for their desks. Net result with all those extra motors running? The electric bill was HIGHER than before. Numerous studies show that if you maximize room comfort, you'll maximize productivity. (Of course, we're talking the UN here, so maybe "productivity" is the wrong word.)

Don't see what the complain is about. I have my central air thermostat set at 78 degrees during the summer, overhead fans circulating, and it is quite comfortable. In the winter I set it at 70 degrees and reverse the fans.

What is climate change? Give us the equation and let us figure the results. Why does going back to the 70's carbon emission levels mean that we can control the climate any better than we did then. What really controls the climate? Carbon emission is just one variable and we don't have any idea of the impact. Just review Al Gores predictions.

I'm just wondering what our "national dress" is here in America? I'm thinking shorts and flip flops...

31,072 scientists signed this petition rejecting the global warming theory: http://www.petitionproject.org/ The past president of the National Academy of Sciences also rejected the global warming theory: http://www.petitionproject.org/gwdatabase/GWPP/Seitz_Letter.html http://newswire.rockefeller.edu/index.php?page=engine&id=724 Here is a graph showing the difference between what the global warming theory predicted 20 years ago, and the actual temperature record of the last 20 years: http://www.climate-skeptic.com/2008/06/gret-moments-in.html The most widely read paper on the subject, published in a journal of science explains exactly why we don't need to worry about CO2 causing global warming: http://www.oism.org/pproject/review.pdf On page 10 of this review, scientists explain what a rational energy policy for the United States would look like, which includes energy independence, and plenty of extra energy to spare for the foreseeable future. This is not what the United Nations wants you to read, because it takes away all of their excuses for throttling the U. S. economy, and deprives them of their ability to control the American people through fear and misplaced guilt.

Come on - if they REALLY cared about global warming THEY'D STOP USING AIR CONDITIONING ALL TOGETHER! And they'd stop using electric lights too! Don't they know that earth hangs in the balance here? I mean come on guys - we're DESTROYING the earth. It's an inconvenient truth I know. But you're just going to have to be inconvenienced. And if you can't stop using AC which is just for your personal comfort - the I have to question how much you really care about this planet we call home. And lights too. Turn off the damn lights at the UN. Show us how much you really care. You're a leading international organization and we're looking to you for leadership on this issue. You continue to use lights and AC - you're sending a powerful message to us that things aren't so bad. When we see you shut off the AC and cut out the lights (and move back to where you came from) then maybe we'll take you seriously.
Mark as offensive

van_horn

This is just another example of how phony the UN is. If global warming is such a big concern they should "gut it up" and turn off the AC altogether.
