I do not like the new print format. It is too dense, not enough open space, and the type face is not as readable as the old face.
I also do not like the new print format. It IS too dense, and it is difficult to read. Put it back the way it was, or I shall not read this site anymore.
What sets apart a big daily from a community freebi, besides the national and world coverage, is extensve comics, and a daily TV listing!! A weekly TV insert is just not always up to date enough. Last night was a good example at 10 on channel 9: Your Sunday paper listing had the program right, but the weekly had it wrong (as did the Washington Post weekly). YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE DAILY LISTINGS! Are they really that expensive?! You pay for what you get....
You "fixed" something that wasn't broke!
The new format is harder to read, harder to find things. Did the Web Weenies talk you into making your site more "hip" with more gadgets and buttons and tabs? The design is terrible!
I used to enjoy visiting the site daily - not anymore. I'll miss you!
Two comments:
First, as for the new print format, I also found it too dense, but then found that for each story there is an opportunity to increase the font size (look for the "font size" option in the article).
Second, I agree with Chicken Little about the difficulty of finding articles on this new site. I'm sure the web "consultants" are pushing heavily for this new idea of having one "big" story highlighted each day. But that's not what the Washington Times is good at and known for and sought after for. Those of us far away from the beltway want to be able to access all 10 news stories in the print edition each day. And then we want to be able to access all 6 stories in the metro section each day. This was easy to find on the old site. You need to find a way to restore this option on the new site. In short, if the web "consultants" want to provide color and one "big" story each day, then fine, keep that as an option. But you also need to provide a back-channel way for us news junkies around the country to be able to easily find all 10 "politics" stories in the paper each day, just as we were able to do on the old web site.
What is "A2"? Translation please.
One constant at work was reading the washtimes while eating lunch. However, due to the complexity of the graphics and video I can't easily load or browse the paper at all.
Since when I get home I am busy, this effectively means I can't use this website daily any more.
New web page is lots of glitz and no substance. Prefered the old format with its synopsis up front
Isn't there some way that you can automatically make the font size bigger as a default setting, without having to adjust the size upward each time you view a different article. Surely there's some way that the web designers could automatically let the font size be larger as a default, and then if anyone wants to make the font smaller, let THEM adjust it to make it smaller.
Sorry, but this is one poor 'upgrade'... It may thrill computer geeks but it leaves me COLD! WHY do I have to enlarge each article in order to read it? Why are articles printed only on one side of the page, the other side being wasted with far less than necessary garbage? Whatever happened to Inside The Beltway? In summary I get frustrated rather quickly as I WASTE my time and energy hunting for items of interest, and I then depart your weird new site.......Oh yeah,,,, Why is the site still one of the slowest to load on the web?
In recent times, we have seen the Washington Times:
--eliminate some of the most useful and interesting features such as the Thursday Week-End section, the Sunday broadcast schedule for the upcoming week's sports events, and the Monday church feature.
--decide to charge DOUBLE for the daily paper.
--turn a perfectly fine website where the material was easy to get to with the piece of garbage we have now.
--and, today, replace the Print Edition with that hideous monstrosity I got this morning.
I have been a faithful and loyal reader of this paper for TWENTY years, ever since I moved to Washington, DC in 1988. But ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! What you have done is completely unacceptable! If you want me back, it will ONLY be when you bring back the "old" Washington Times.
The current management of the Times should be really proud of themselves for totally destroying such a fine newspaper in so short period of time.
