Thank God for the last paragraph!! That explains why this article sounds the way it does when Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE, Tamil Tigers) explode civilian buses in Sinhalese areas; sometimes 2 buses a day. Government organized racist thugs who happened to be Sinhalese (what a shame!!) killed Tamils quarter century ago (don't forget it was Sinhalese themselves who also let Tamils hide in their houses when racist thugs approached), but in recent times, it's the LTTE who've been slaughtering Sinhalese civilians by exploding one bus/train bomb after another. Don't compare LTTE's targeted civilian slaughtering in otherwise peaceful areas of the country to civilian casualties due to the war in fighting areas. And there's no war between Tamils and the government as the author says. More than 50% of the Tamil population live in Sinhalese areas. The war is between LTTE and the government. LTTE killed most of the Tamil leaders including government's foreign minister who himself a Tamil and silenced the rest so they can call themselves the sole representatives of Tamils. Tamils in the fighting areas get killed as a result of fighting and Sinhalese are killed by LTTE bombs that target civilians.
