The best method of lobbyist management is to do nothing. The so acclaimed bill from BHO is worthless. The best tool to control influence peddling is TERM LIMTS for elected officials. Requires no oversite, no expense to the taxpayer and elected officials would have to be 1 term removed before they could return as a lobbyist. It does not preclude a person elected 2 terms in the house to go to the senate for 2 terms but it should curtail the committee assignment capabilities where the lobbyists pedal their business. Yes, as we have for the Presidency, I believe in TERM LIMITS for all elected officials at every level of government from elected dog catcher to the President. TERM LIMITS would be the best management tool that congress will never consider. The next time the press does a televised or radio debate, ask this question - "Would you establish TERM LIMITS for elected officials?"
Stereotyping is dangerous, especially since everyone is a lobbyist -- try to influence the actions of others. Even a crying baby usually gets desired results.
The problem here boils down to integrity and ethics. To stereotype every lobbyists is akin to labeling all humanity. There are nurses, military veterans, clergy, teachers, and many other outstanding citizens who actively lobby legally -- some as Federal registered lobbyists and the vast majority as grassroots lobbyists.
Selling one's services to the highest bidder is still the world's oldest profession. Commitment to a cause or causes generally separate the good from the bad.
Accountability is the solution. Who are your elected officials listening to -- you or them -- then vote accordingly.
