COMMENTARY: Transparency vs. secrecy

Perhaps Bruce Fien would have the President carry a recording device with him at all times and record his private prayers for all to hear. The idea that we, the citizens of the USA, are "self governed" is bogus. We are governed by representatives, there are no federal referendums in which we can vote yes or no on a legislative purposal, or a federal judicial appointment. Whether that representative consults with his own conscience or with his wife is really not ours to determine. If you don't like the results, vote him out. Think about the "openess" of the US Senate; how often has a Senator produced transcripts of the discussion between himself and lobbyists? Even if there were such "informing function" by congress, the citizens would still have no part in the resulting actions except to vote in next election, long after the laws are passed. Wm.
