Most houses purchased within the last 10 years are overpriced by anywhere from 50-100%. This is a consequence of the failure of the government to subsidize building apartments, like it did in the 1950s-1970s. Cheap, plentiful rental apartments help to hold down the prices on other housing, as well as helping to stabilize income for moderate wage-earners. Some day we will hopefully return to that sensible policy.
