There is only one solution to this, vote those out of office that support
oxymoronic resolutions. The same goes for global warming. Put someone in office that knows cause and effect and doesn't vote because it sounds right and provides them with a political power distribution process. Our Congress is dysfunctional. Only 18% of the people support them. Why do we keep voting them back in?
Notice that no one mentions the most profitable business for windfall profit taxes, the health insurance industry. According to my Business and Taxation Prof, Health Insurance was the most profitable business. That was years before the quintupling of premiums so I suspect it is still the most profitable. Do all these do gooders own health insurance stock? Tax so called health insurance companies and tax advertising which gives access to the American marketplace. And, tax credit card company charges to business, their profits are outrageous and may be supporting the war.
As with any other feel good liberal policy, they will destroy that which allows them the luxury of such fuzzy thinking. ANWR is a prime example. We drill on several thousand acres out of millions available and relieve our energy challenges. We eliminate our dependence upon the whims of a few hundred arab sheiks, and we have more money to invest into alternatives such as oil shales, liquified coal, hydrogen cells, nuclear, solar, hydro, biofuels, and geo-thermal ad infinitem.
They just do not get it once again... more the pity. Free both the market and the scientific creativity of the American people. The drag on progress is the false religion of liberal environmentalism.

While I agree that the best short-term fix for this nation's energy problems is to increase production and refinery capacity, we really do need to be proactive as other countries have been and get this greatest country in the world to a point where we do not need energy from any other country other than what we can produce ourselves. That means we will eventually need to produce energy by other means, whether it be solar, electric, or ethanol.
I believe that unless our country becomes more proactive in finding a long-term solution to our energy crisis, we will keep fighting this energy battle over and over
