Action and comments like those mentioned in this article make me wonder which side many members of congress are on? Ours or the terrorists?
Approximately half of the lawsuits filed were to determine how the intercepts were being made, nothing more. The bill, as presented by the White House, was passed virtually intact. Thus begging the question, WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG? To delay something this important to the United States and our allies soley for political posturing is unconsionable and should be beneath contempt. There were ALREADY sufficient safeguards, built in, to protect the American people. If there weren't we would have seen them in the final bill as presented for vote.
Partisan politics, soley for party gain, has proven costly to the United States and our alles in dificult times. We deserve better from our elected representatives!
And what about Senator Dodd and his house loan from Country Wide? I guess inappropriate conduct ONLY applies to Republicans! Come on boys, he's the chairman of the committee from which comes the 25 billion dollar bailout for this SAME COMPANY. Even that would stink in my garbage!!
People are missing the Big Picture here:
President Bush and other high-ranking officials have admitted publicly there is a clandestine domestic surveillance program in place (or at least until the NY Times ran their story) involving multiple government agencies that eavesdrop on U.S. citizens' personal communications without a Court order.
Congress has not appointed a Special Counsel to ascertain exactly what type of program is in place or to what extent personal information is being analyzed. With this recent House bill revising FISA (H.R. 6304), Congress has once again abrogated their oversight responsibility while this Administration tramples all over the Constitution.
It is worth mentioning that George Bush did not take an oath to defend our Country, he took an Oath to defend the Constitution. He broke that Oath numerous times during his tenure as President, but our Congress has done nothing about it. It is a sad state of affairs.
