So when you put out a product that no one wants and therefore are not buying, you blame the customer?
Why is it that people who reach a certain level of wealth, seem to have a need to spend time telling those of us that haven't, what to do.
I, for one, have enjoyed most of my life with what little money I've got, and have never really thought about the rich, except to once in a while stop to say thanks for letting me work for you!
Please, try to understand, I along with several million Americans have a good grip on reality.
Very few crimes are committed by licensed gun owners, in fact homes with registered guns are safer because the owners TEACH, in most cases, their children properly! For whatever reason, religious, personal beliefs, or outside influences, we have reached various conclusion regarding pressing problems.
Some of us are STILL waiting to see who will recognize and then resolve these problems.
The problem with that theory is that, historically, a majority of college-educated people tend to vote Republican and/or lean conservative.
Um, Sailaway, that's quite a claim. Wanna maybe back it up in some way, or are we just opting for trust? Because on the internet, that's gonna be a hard sell. Especially given the tendency of conservatives on said internet towards screaming about how everyone who passes through any form of education higher than middle school is an elitist liberal moonbat.
As to the article: hilarious. Why does no University want Michelle Malkin speaking at their graduation? It couldn't possibly be because she spews intellectually bankrupt vitriol, or embodies the current neo-conservative madness which claims that the president is not merely the absolute ruler of the United States, but beyond reproach of any kind? Could it be that Sean Hannity has absolutely zero actual journalistic credibility? Could it be because anyone of a post-highschool education and a view beyond Fox News can see that they are the cronies of a destructive ideology that has been ravaging the United States for the past seven years? Nah. It's gotta be prejudice against anyone who isn't a radical black lesbian post-feminist mysogenist. Yeah. There. I feel better. Stop being mean to Michelle Malkin!
You can't accuse Washington University of avoiding diversity when they just ceremoniously handed Phyllis Schlafly an honorary degree, much to the protest of its students. She holds the viewpoint that around half of the universities' graduates (to wit, the ones with vaginas) ought not use their degrees for their intended purpose, but they should rather stay home and be housewives. Interestingly enough, this isn't what Schlafly did, but instead made it hard to legislate equality in the workplace. Liberal agenda there? And to be fair, Chris Matthews has had his own brand of sexism to dish out.
I think the most important part to note about that paragraph is that the students protested her being given an honorary doctorate, though unsuccessfully. The fact is, few liberal arts students would stand for having Michelle Malkin or Sean Hannity at their commencement, unless we are talking about a largely conservative student body, which, for an accredited four year university in the Western World, just happens to be rare. It's just not very diplomatic to have one of them. That's not to say right-wing pundits don't earn plenty of dough by speaking at schools (While a student at Wash U, I had the pleasure and educational experience of seeing Ann Coulter, David Horowitz, and Phyllis Schafly... only the latter didn't yell at any point in their presentation). It's just that too many students wouldn't really want to stand for people who hold so much contempt for the contents of their hard-earned and expensive education, which many conservative pundits do, on the day that they recieve honors for completing said course of study.
Jason is well on his way to being a productive member of the religious right wing community that has to manufacture outrage and manufacture oppression in order to make a stand on something. Liberal colleges, the media. Yes Jason, you have learned well from the hose of Limbaugh and Hannity. Drink it up Jason, thinking for yourself is hard.
Keep fighting the culture war Chickenhawk
Unlike liberals, misterweazle, I do not feel the need to lie or make up statistics. CNN's exit polls after the 2006 election showed college graduates (bachelor's degree-holding, to dumb it down for you) were evenly split among Republicans and Democrats, although Dems did slightly better if you factor in post-grads. In 2004, Bush got 52% of the college-educated vote, versus 46% for Kerry (although it was more evenly split accounting for post-grads, with 49% each).
So, it's pretty evenly split. So, if you're truly promoting the "customer oriented" theory, then colleges should be ideologically split down the middle. But they are anything but: many surveys, including one my UCLA's Higher Education Research Institute, shows ranges from 3:1 to 9:1 liberal to conservative (and, yes, liberal doesn't necessarily correlate to Democrat and conservative doesn't always correlate to Republican). Other research shows similar imbalances between conservatives/Republicans and Democrats/liberals. More here: http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2007/10/08/politics
The point being, this utterly blows the silly theory out of the water that colleges are in any way "customer-oriented".
