I am astonished to find that Bruce Fein's irrational hatred for the Bush Administration positions him considerably to the left of Barack Obama. What should we say to Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson and FDR, all of whom have assumed extraordinary presidential powers in times of war. Shall we dig them all up and burn their bones? The division of powers is not so fine a line as Mr. Fein pretends. The Constitution assumes that the three branches will work together in good faith and, failing that, provides draconian remedies, for example, impeachment, that we should employ only under the MOST extraordinary circumstances.
First, I must commend Mr. Fein for not only an accurate but a factual and insightful article.
My response, however, is to Ichabod for his very uninformed and biased opinion. Whether or not Mr. Fein holds hatred for Bush is irrelavant given that the facts are correct, which in this case they most certainly are. No president in my lifetime has done more to harm the constitution or to destroy the rule of law than Bush. This to me seems evident, so impeachment should be mandatory. If not, congress has not done a proper job.
I will also address Ichabod's question as to past presidents "bone burning". Burning dead folks would be useless, but exposing them for their crimes would be very useful. I might suggest that in postmortem, all three, Lincoln, Wilson, and FDR be impeached. While this would not affect these past tyrants personally, it would send a proper message to all those public school indoctrinates who have no concept of our history or our constitution.
