Gun control still in force, chief says

The D.C. government pretending that a common semi-automatic pistol is a machinegun does not make it so. The BATFE has strictly defined what a machinegun is (and isn't). I'd be willing to bet the D.C. government will adopt the 'Goldilocks' approach to regulating handguns (These are too small, these are too big or ugly, but these are 'just right'). The criminals already have what they want in the form of semi-automatic firearms. Restricting citizens to 5 or 6 shot revolvers, (probably with govenment approved low power Eco-friendly bullets) is akin to entering a Donkey in the Kentucky Derby.

The Victum Disarment Groups aka the Gun Control Groups aren't going to give up their dream to force us to live in fear of the armed criminal. Instead they are going to suffer the death of a thousand cuts as the Supreme Court decision forces suits on each individual gun control law. A more sweeping decision whould have left many gun control laws in place while removing the real stupid ones.

When I was in elementary school( in the 40's) we were taught citizenship. Simply stated, obey laws or get them changed legally. Good citizens obey stupid gun laws, crooks don't. When a government is made up or really stupid people like the DC government, really stupid laws are passed. They will usually get overturned by the fed up public, or in this case, the Supreme Court. When will politicians realize that passing restrictive gun laws only disarms law abiding people. Crooks ignore any law that puts them at a disadvantage. Ann Richards was a fairly popular governor until she vetoed a concealed carry law. The new governor signed it and now honest citizens of Texas can carry a concealed handgun if they wish after passing a background check and attending and passing a gun safety course and showing proficiency with a handgun. What a really amazing attitude, trusting honest people!

The actions of Fenty, Lanier, Boxer, et al, have nothing to do with protecting the people or even the CHILDREN; it is all about keeping the power in the hands of the elite. Does anyone really think the judicial system is making an honest effort to address crime in this country when a murdering rapist stands a better chance of getting back out on the street than the curious teenager does who possessed an ounce of marijuana? Not even the dumbest, most ignorant or jaded politician can ignore the Federal government's own statistics that disprove guns in the hands of honest citizens create more violence. While allowing this right (and isn't it strange that the people ALLOW their government to let them exercise their rights?) does not always lead to a reduction in violence, there is not one documented case of an increase; trust me, criminals are much more polite in Arizona and Florida where citizens are allowed their right to possess guns! Our friends in government have succeeded in dumbing down the public so much that rule by fear is easily accomplished: "Guns are bad, so give them to us. Sure, bad guys will still run rampant and kill you, but don't worry...we're the Government and we will help you. We'll pass more stupid laws that will eventually result in your having to stay at home, in bed. That way the bad man can't get to you." Keeping guns out of the hands of citizens protects only the government, who want to make certain that when the people realize their Constitutional rights are being destroyed they will have no recourse.

The police chief does not know what a semiauto weapon is. Here is the definition: A semi-automatic, or self-loading firearm is a gun that requires only a trigger pull for each round that is fired, unlike a single-action revolver, a pump-action firearm, a bolt-action firearm, or a lever-action firearm, which require the shooter to manually chamber each successive round. For example, to fire ten rounds in a semi-automatic firearm, the trigger would need to be pulled ten times (once for each round fired), in contrast to a fully automatic firearm, which can continue to fire as long as the trigger is held or until it runs out of ammunition. The usage of the term automatic may vary according to context. Gun specialists point out that the word automatic is sometimes misunderstood to mean fully automatic fire when used to refer to a self-loading, semi-automatic firearm not capable of fully automatic fire. In this case, automatic refers to the loading mechanism, not the firing capability. The term "automatic pistol" almost exclusively refers to a semi-automatic (i.e. not fully automatic) pistol. With handguns, the term "automatic" is commonly used to distinguish semi-automatic pistols from revolvers. The term "auto-loader" may also be used to describe a semi-automatic handgun. However, the term "automatic rifle" may mean a rifle capable of fully automatic fire. Both uses of the term "automatic" can be found, and the exact meaning must be determined from context. The court has ruled and the police need to let LAW ABIDING citizens alone and deal with the THUGS who DO NOT OBEY the law. Here in the country you would be run out of town and the thugs would get shot.

This kind of crap is the exactly what a childish, emotional, incompetent idiot does when they've been told that they can't do something! They will always try to make an end run to get around it. Several things need to happen to change their attitude and get their attention. 1) File a multi-million dollar law suit against the city. Hit them where it hurts the worst...in their collective wallet. 2) When it becomes time for their re-election...VOTE THEIR INCOMPETENT ASSES OUT! Lanier serves at the leisure of the mayor and a new mayor could dump her. She is the most incompetent, idiotic, "kiss up" that has ever served in this type of position. When it reaches the point that the powers that be cannot or will not enforce criminal law it's time for them to go. 3)The criminals must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and it's not happening. Prosecutors and judges allow plea bargains to happen that often times put violent criminals back on the street after a minimal length of time served. There are several reasons this takes place. Trials are expensive and may cut into the time the judge or the attornies have to play golf. Some prosecutors are also worried about their conviction statistics and a plea bargain is the same as a conviction. They don't have to worry about losing the case, the trial doesn't cost as much and they don't risk (God forbid!) missing their Tee-off time at the golf course. If you see a lot of plea bargains coming out of the courts in D.C. demand that it stop, if it doesn't then do what is necessary to remove the prosecutors that are doing it and the judges that are allowing it. It's "YOUR" city, do something about it!

I'm curious. You don't prosecute te criminals for guns, but you arrest, harass and terrorize non-criminals... in essence making them defenseless victims. This, honestly, sounds like the crime bosses in DC are behind the ban. After all, it benefits them the most!

It's good that they're looking at the 14th amendment, but don't forget the 10th: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." If the black-robed wonders could find a right to kill babies in the Constitution, it should be a cinch for them figure out that the existence of the 2nd Amendment is sufficient to PROHIBIT ANY RESTRICTIONS ON RKBA by state and local governments. They have ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to tamper with a constitutionally protected freedom.

The thing about the 2nd Amendment that often gets overlooked (I'm sure on purpose by the anti-gunners) is that it is part of the Bill of Rights which are individual freedoms and it was intended as such. But, of course, the AG's raise the militia wording in order to nullify the entire amendment because we no longer live in a time where an oppressive government threatens our freedoms. Our government is our friend and benefactor. It takes care of us in exchange for our freedoms. We have nothing to fear anymore. That's called Socialism folks. The Soviet Union didn't make it last but perhaps, with Comrade Obama at the helm; we can forge ahead to a brave new world with no war, energy crisis, (gun) violence, or fear! Yeah, right. The unfortunate aspect of our society is that the media (this rag included) is controlled by the minority and speaks for the minority. They don’t represent mainstream America and from the coverage of this landmark decision in relation to the polls it’s plain to see that the goal of the media is to bury or whitewash this as much as possible. You can’t blame the media without also including Hollywood. Take for example Rosie O’Donnell and her Million Mom March. Miss O’Donnell wants everyone to believe that there’s no reason to bear arms for protection. Why would there be? After all, she doesn’t? But wait, she has at least one bodyguard and guess what, that bodyguard is armed. Well, that’s interesting. Okay so you don’t have a bodyguard then you have a safe room. How many Americans have the luxury of a safe room? Just use a closet! That’s real safe is someone wants to get in. The principle point that the AG’s don’t want the public to know is the fact that it’s not the job of the police to protect you or your property, period. That’s your responsibility. This is a fact folks. I read about it from an ACLU attorney (yes, ACLU) and local police as well. The police are there to protect your rights; they aren’t bodyguards. If there ever was to be a true gun ban it would have to include all law enforcement as well – no cops with any guns. After all, if the gun bans work as their proponents say then the police wouldn’t need guns anyway. So if you have an alarm system and you think you’re still safe just remember that what they don’t show in those commercials are the cases where someone kicks in the door and doesn’t run away when the alarm sounds. What are you going to do in those minutes between the time the alarm sounds and the police arrive? Hide in your safe room while your bodyguard protects you? Not me. I’m going to protect my family. If you think that makes me a psychotic gun monger just because I’m not going to let someone get to them while I’m still breathing then maybe America isn’t the place for you. I’m sure the Founding Fathers would agree since the right of self preservation does not diminish with time.
