Moving into an active adult community, where residents are restricted to households with members age 55 and older, often means downsizing.

Empty-nesters, retirees and pre-retirees ready to leave behind household chores may feel they must move into a smaller condominium or town home. But at Stonecrest in Arnold, NVHomes’ active adult community has single-family homes on quarter-acre or one-third-acre lots, with 2,068 to 2,794 finished square feet. The homes can be expanded with optional additions.

At Anne Arundel County’s Stonecrest, residents can live in a quiet community with walking trails, a gazebo and a picnic area. Nearby are golf and mall shopping.

The low-maintenance homes at Stonecrest feature Carolina beaded vinyl siding with a cultured stone water table, a sodded yard with an upgraded landscape package and a two-car front loading garage.

Inside, each of the four models has a first-floor master suite, two to four bedrooms, two full baths, a powder room, high ceilings, hardwood flooring in the foyer, ceramic tile flooring in the baths, tray ceilings, upgraded trim, and gas heat and hot water.

The kitchens have 42-inch honey maple cabinets, a pantry and Whirlpool appliances. Each master bath has a tub and separate shower. Buyers can add a gas fireplace, a sitting room, a great room extension and oak stairs.

The four models are base-priced from $499,990 to $629,990.

The Bornquist model, with 2,223 square feet, is priced from $549,990. This home has a covered portico entrance with columns that leads into a two-story foyer with a tray ceiling.

An art niche and closet are located along the central hallway, which leads to the central staircase to the upper and lower levels. Nearby, the formal dining room features a tray ceiling and columns. Buyers can add a bay window to this room.

At the back of the home are an open great room with a wall of windows and an optional gas fireplace. Next to the great room are a breakfast area and a center-island kitchen with a breakfast bar. A screened porch can be added off the breakfast area, which can also be enhanced with a bay window. A laundry room is adjacent to the two-car garage.

The first-floor master suite has a tray ceiling, two walk-in closets and a bath with a tub, a separate shower with a seat, two separate vanities and a tray ceiling. Buyers can opt for a larger shower with two seats in place of the tub. A sitting room can be added to the master bedroom.

This level has two additional bedrooms, each with a standard closet. These two rooms share a hall bath. The third bedroom can be converted to a study with bookcases, if desired.

The upper level has an unfinished bonus room that can be finished as a bedroom with a full bath.

The lower level has a finished recreation room and multiple storage rooms. These rooms can be converted to a home office and media room, if desired.
