SEEN AND HEARD IN LAKELAND, FLA.

NATIONALS 9, TIGERS 1

Washington put together one of its best all-around performances of the spring in beating potent Detroit. Lastings Milledge, Justin Maxwell and Ronnie Belliard homered, with the latter two blasts highlighting a seven-run sixth inning.

The Nationals’ pitching staff was equally impressive against Detroit’s powerful lineup. Tim Redding churned out five scoreless innings, and Joel Hanrahan continued his lights-out spring with two more scoreless innings. The right-hander hasn’t allowed a run in 102/3 innings.
