Can you explain why this is a page one story? The guy was late with property tax payments and paid later with penalties. So what? Perhaps the McClellan book story should have been in that spot instead? Please explain.
Where's the story in this? The taxes aren't outstanding--they were paid. Yes, they were late, but the late fees were also paid. In their attempt to turn what should be a short not on p.20 into a page one story, the editors are implying sensationalism where none exists. This is irrelevant and the Times editors are doing a disservice to their readers to suggest otherwise.
